PromisQous, Non-vintage California Red Table Wine, $12
As $12 wines go, this has to be one of the better ones, a blend that seems dominated by Zinfandel with a smattering of other varieties. It's got a blast of pepper, red cherry, blackberries, dark plums and brown spices on the nose, followed by most convivial flavors, acidity and balance. Tannins, acidity and oak do a nice dance together. The name is too contrived for me, but the base wines are good. Pour it for guests and spark some conversation.
