Today's recommended wine

Selections are by wine columnist Sandra Silfven, unless otherwise noted.

Robert Mondavi, 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, $26

Like riding in a luxury car, you have to taste the good stuff once in a while as a palate check. This divine Cabernet is a celebration wine, an exquisite package of outstanding fruit, lovely use of oak, smooth-as-silk tannins and acidity to tie it all together. The fruit is mostly from Oakville, where the winery is located, and of that fruit, 35 percent is from the famous To Kalon Vineyard behind the winery. At list price of $26, it's a gem. The aromas are a perfume of black currants, blackberries, cherries, and brown spices. The flavors are pure and rich, alcohol is 15.3 percent, and smoky French oak is woven seamlessly throughout. If a wine could "melt in your mouth," that's what this Cab does. I highly recommend it.
