Today's recommended wine

Selections are by wine columnist Sandra Silfven, unless otherwise noted.

Cupcake Vineyards, 2008 Dry Riesling Yakima Valley (Wash.), $14

Cupcake, which contracts for all its grapes from prime growing areas, went to Washington state for this dandy. It's fruity, bone-dry, minerally and food-friendly. Aromas are lemon-lime and white peaches and apricots. Flavors are a tart-dry follow-through, with crisp acidity for structure and a belt of minerality to add complexity. It's totally stainless-steel produced. Riesling quality has picked up tremendously in this state. Keep this one in mind for holiday tables. It's high-quality for palates that appreciate a crisp-dry wine.
