Bertuzzi...

I agree with you on Bert, Jimmy. He's had enough near misses, that lately he seems to be trying to aim the puck too much a bit and waiting a little too long to let it go IMO. Anyone who knocks the performances of Bert or Homer so far this season, really hasn't been paying attention. Homer was tied for goal lead on the Wings before the last game against Montreal which I forgot to DVR so I missed and Bert has been there to dump back a lot of potential garbage goals, unfortunately, none of those put backs have found a home yet, but they eventually will.

Bad day for refs all over the world.....

"If you think the Refs blew one in Detroit yesterday you have to see what happened in France."

Who cares about that blown call. After watching that video I have bigger questions. Why do they make their ice green? Where are their sticks? Why is their puck so big?

Absolute Horsecrap

Tough game to watch with so many horrible calls going both ways.

Can refs be fined? That entire crew needs to be suspended until such time as they pull their heads from their arses.

That ref must have meant to blow the whistle whiles May was taking that shot. Simply unreal how "professional" refs can simply lie to cover a mistake and get away with it.

When video review is available, there is no excuse for not being more concerned with getting the call right rather than losing face. What a bunch of malarky.

Wings Stats

Well, our gpg is going to be jacked for a little while after a 9 goal outing.

Thru 15 games we were averaging 2.87 gpg. After the BJsplosion, we were averaging 3.25 gpg. Odds are we will not continue to average 3.25 per game the entire year. I'm guessing our depleted roster will again level off somewhere just under or at 3.00

I'm still with Babs on emphasizing defense.

Doug, compelling reasoning. Well put together post. No disrespect to you, Pierre.

How cool is this?

I came on here expecting to see someone tell me the reasons Detroit should have scored 12 and didn't because they stink, but to my surprise everything is mostly positive outside of the Dick MC vs Nick daily clash of the titans. :)

That was a fun one to watch, wasn't it? As bad as I have seen the Wings play, I have never seen them play as bad as the Central leading (before the game started) Jackets played last night. The Wings let off the gas for half the game and still the Jackets played lazy hockey and couldn't keep up.

Have I seen the Wings play uninspired? Yep, but usually when I see Detroit on the wrong side of a blowout, it has more to do with the other team catching Detroit flat and then going into some sort of revenge inspired feeding frenzy with with every intention of rolling up the score as much as possible.

On another positive note, let's be glad we didn't do that to the Flames or the Ducks. After the score was 5-1 you know they would have spent the rest of the game simply trying to cheap shot and hurt our players.

Say what you will about Columbus, they have never gone that route and I give them kudos for taking their beating like men.

Lilja return date

Nick said: "If Lilja does come back and is pain-free, watch for B-52's plus/minus to start to rise up."

Would you expect it to rise down? Sorry Nick, couldn't resist.

Coming back from the weekend...

...infighting, Babcock is going to lose his job, Wings suck, KH sucks, sky is falling, gee...did we lose the last game perhaps?

Hadn't we just won four in a row or four of five? Does anyone think this roster can win on that rate for the rest of the season with our current depleted roster? The injuries are mounting to a downright scary level at this point.

Toronto was fired up. Detroit was caught flat. Gustavsson is getting on a roll. The injury to Williams deflated the Wings even further.

I don't like watching the Wings take it on the chin any more than the next guy, but the Wings were due to have a night like this. IMO, the Wings have generally vastly outplayed the competition the last five games or so and the games were only close due to some unfortunate bounces of the puck.

Let's see how they react to plugging yet another hole on the roster. It's gut check time for the Wings. Things are going to get real interesting now.

Second try:

Okay, I'll start. Khabibulin $6.75 mil. Passed waivers recently and current stats are all worse than our sub $1.5 mil starting tender.

Anyone want to add or subtract someone from this list? I notice there are three Rangers on the list.

Bert

I'm was not a huge fan of the Bert signing, and I know he hasn't exactly lit up the stat sheets, but he is going to break through soon. He's set up so many scoring chances that it's only a matter of time. I think he is skating better and I think he is enjoying having more ice time in his second Red Wing stint.

It just seems that he is in the right place at the right time a lot. He is a bit snakebitten right now, but hopefully that won't last much longer.

Helm...what can you say? He's starting to appeal to me in the same way watching Draper used to before Draper started losing a step or two. Just love watching him keep the opposing team honest whenever he is on the ice with his speed.

Good to see Z get a yeoman-like goal. Happy to come out on the winning side of a shootout. LGRW

Wedge 56 - Pitts Cap for next year

Milhouse--Do I sense sarcasm? I'm unsure who you are counterpointing. I misquoted an article I had briefly glanced through yesterday and immediately printed a retraction and corrected myself when I went back and read it more thoroughly. Then Nick and I agreed that the Pens weren't in as much trouble with the salary cap as Spector's article seemed to think they were, which, is also what you are saying isn't it?

I did go so far as to say Shero had the benefit of some high draft picks, but I don't think I ever accused him of being a second rate or worse GM.

Anyways, just wondering if I was missing something. S'all good.
