"Homer....when was the last time he's scored a goal. He went into a playoff slump last year but everyone said he was injured. Well he's not injured now. Maybe it's time that he moved down to a lower line."
Homer is tied with Z for first on the team with 9 goals. I'm not sure how much more you could expect out of Homer so far. He can't score every game, he's certainly not a 50 goal scorer.
How do you prevent cheap shots like that?
By hitting Laraque where it hurts the most....his wallet. You suspend the guy without pay for 40 games and then he will think twice about doing something like that again. A tough guy on the end of the bench would not have near the same impact as half a years salary down the drain.
Referees
A goon on our bench would not have prevented Kronwall's injury last night. First off, there isn't a guy in league that Laraque would have been scared of on the Wing's bench. He would have done what he did and then beat the crap out of whoever tried to do anything about it on our team.
Contrary to popular opinion around here, injuries like that are rarely prevented by having a tough guy on your bench. What you do get is retribution but the ininitial injury still happens. The fans just get a sense of satisfaction if the offending player gets his arse beat by another member of the team. It still doesn't change the fact that your players is injured and out of the lineup.
Case in point, Filpulla's injury. While clearly not as dirty and blatant as Laraque's hit, it was still a late hit from behind that injured a player. May was on the bench when that happened. Did he prevent it? No. What did May do about it? Nothing, he didn't even get off the bench to seek any retribution.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to have the toughest guy in the league sitting on our bench but that would not have prevented Kronwall's injury last night.
speaking of moderately intelligent people...
my last post makes you wonder if I am one. lol
nhl official statement
That statement is a joke an insult to all people of even moderate intelligence. Nothing but a bunch of double talk like were stupid. He was stammering all through his explanation. Murphy and Larue are both liars.
Where's Pavldo?
I agree with you about Datsyuk. He did not look great last night and we were discussing that at the game. He has had some excellent games but has not been consistent as of yet. He has been an extremely slow starter the past 3 seasons so hopefully we will get his normal season in the end and I think he will. He is too good not to and is not a lazy player.
No Fix, No Conspiracy, just a horrible call
You rarely if ever hear me come on here and complain about the officials. I think they suck but it just isn't worth it. As I said earlier I tend to agree with you in most cases but I am talking specifically about situations like last night around the net. I just don't see the "equaling out" that you mention.
Are you honestly saying that you think we get just as many of those calls around the net as go against us? Overturned, reviewed goals around the crease? How many for Homer alone?
You need to give me more than one example such as Z a couple weeks ago. Well....you don't need to do anything but it would be nice because I just don't recall all of them. And it isn't because I can't be objective. I watch every Wings game and I just don't remember "all" of them.
No Fix, No Conspiracy, just a horrible call
Millhouse - The problem people have is that the Wings always appear to be on the other end of "just a horrible call" in these situations around the net. Rarely if ever are we the beneficiary or at least it doesn't seem that way.
We appear to always be the one that has a goal waived off due to "early whistles", "inadvertent whistles", "intended whistles", official being out of position(in the corner), posterior regions(lamest excuse till last night) being in the crease, etc.
How many times can you honestly say that you remember the Wings being on the positive end of one of those calls around the net?
While I tend to agree with you, crap like this and the stuff that goes on in Penguin games gives you pause for thought.
Pierre didn't see it....
He was in the bathroom just as he was for Z's goal. We did a fair amount of drinking before the game and once he broke the seal he was in trouble. lol
Me on the other hand, I did see it. It was right in our end directly in front of us and it was a joke. The only people that didn't know the puck was in the net were the officials. Seriously, the Wings, the Stars and every single fan sitting behind the net saw the puck go in. It was trully the most ridiculous thing I have seen in quite some time.
The shoulda, wuolda, and coulda team
Nice head start KH gave you Nick. Where is his credit for assembling the majority of the team that you take all the credit for perfecting? It's easy when all you have to do is put the cherry on top.
Where would your team be without Dats, Z, Franzen, Fils, Kronwall, Helm, Abby, E, etc? And don't even try to tell me you knew who anyone other than Abby was before they were drafted by the Wings.
I love how KH gets downgraded for not taking O'Reily but the credit is nowhere to be found for drafting guys like Dats, Z and Franzen when so many others passed on them.
You are hysterical sometimes.
John Gee
Gotcha. I just figured it was the fact that the team was winning. That is what typically clears the room around here.
John Gee
I don't know what you posted but they have made it so that if certain words they deem unacceptable are used the post does not get posted. I found this out by trial and error. I can tell you right now that a word that starts with an s and is synonomous with crap will get your post booted. Even if you use an * or another symbol in place of a letter. It still gets booted. Don't know if that was your issue but I thought I would pass that along.
Where has everyone been?
Nothing like a little winning streak to slow down the flow of posts around here. lol
That wasn't so hard was it Nick?
Nick: "Eaves is what he is, a decent fill-in player, but that is all."
Exactly what he signed to be at $500K. Glad you finally agree.
CyberSurvey: Bringing back Bertuzzi
I wish people would judge Bert for his play on the ice and not these pre concieved opinions of him. Bert has played well for awhile now. The puck may not be going in the net right now but he is not hurting the team in anyway either.
Players go through scoring ups and downs through out a season and he is snakebit early. He will and should be judged over the course of the season. When it is all said and done he will have scored about 20 goals and be an even to plus player. What did we actually expect?
