Pretty darn good LTIR list..
Let's see.. Lija and Kronner on "D", Franzen, Flip and Williams on a line... oh wait.. those are our LTIR players.
That is one very good NHL 5-man unit to be sitting on the sidelines. What were the odds of that happening??
Lilja's return date
PC: No friggin' kidding! That would be a excellent
defensive scheme to use until we get Kronner back.
Lilja's return date
Lilja's return date, which three weeks ago was estimated to have been 11/20/09 has been changed to 11/28/09. Must be touch and go with Andreas. He must be very close.

Where do these sellers come up with these ideas? As if anyone here is going to order from one of these idiots!
The Red Wings Already Have 2 Grand Rapids Contracts On the Team
Grand Rapids as a team may sign UFA's that don't have NHL contracts to help fill their team. For example, last year Frances Pare was signed directly by the Grifs. Pare had nothing to do with Detroit even though he was a Griffin. Last year Pare had a true "Grand Rapids contract".
And Cheli is a UFA with an AHL contract to play with the Wolves. Cheli has no ties to Atlanta or any other NHL team.
If some NHL team wants to sign Cheli, he'd need to get his release from the Chicago Wolves first.
To call guys that are Red Wing signees "Grand Rapid contracts" is a misnomer. Our draftees that are playing in GR as well a Delmore, Janik, Jeremy Williams and Kris Newbury are all Red Wing property assigned to play on our minor league affiliate in Grand Rapids.
And Calder, I agree. I also think we need to have a #7 defenseman in reserve and up here ready to go. We saw Janik last time we needed someone, but Delmore was injured then. I wouldn't mind seeing Andy D here just in case now that Kronner is out for a while.
And as for a rule stating that there can only be 4 callups on an NHL team, well, I don't know that rule and couldn't find anything about it in the CBA or on line.
here is the rule:
"A club may place a player on the Injured Reserve List if such player is injured, disabled or ill and unable to perform his duties as a hockey player after having passed the Club's initial physical examination in that season.
A player who has an injury that renders him physically unable to play for a minumum of seven days after that date of the injury can be placed on the Club's Injured Reserve List. Once a player is placed on the list, the Club may replace said player on its NHL roster with another player. All determinations that a player has suffered an injury warranting injured reserve status must be made by the Club's medical staff and in accordance with the Club's medical standards." (-NHL rule)
I don't see a limitation on the number of guys that can be on LTIR. So as long as a guy in on LTIR, he can be replaced. So, if you have 6 guys on LTIR, it looks like you can have 6 replacements come in from the minors. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The Red Wings Already Have 2 Grand Rapids Contracts On the Team
Abby and Helm have minor league options, but they are have Detroit Red Wing contracts. Maybe that's what Jimmy Dickens meant.
The Red Wings Already Have 2 Grand Rapids Contracts On the Team
A player with a Grand Rapids contract cannot play on the Red Wings. He'd be under contract to the Griffins. The Griffins would have to release the guy from his contract so that we could sign him.
Kroner...
Hopefully Meech will rise to the occasion. He now knows that he's in the lineup for at least 9 or 10 games and not on the bubble. IMO that in itself will settle him down and allow his to play without the "trap door" of one or two errors and back to the press box. IMO, he'll respond in a positive manner.
jarvis
Homer is having a great season. He's really stepped it up. I'm glad he's here. The guy's a +5 and gritty. He's been dishing the puck nicely. IMO, you just can't knock the guy.

Who are the guys that are on the DRW's with Grand Rapids contracts? Please clarify.
grinders and grunts
"I hear you nick, drew miller looks like a decent hockey player but not a threat at all. " (-Buddy Blueline)
Let's face it Buddy, if Miller was a threat, he'd still be a Duck or a Lightning property. Same with Eaves. If Eaves was a threat, he'd still be with Ottawa, Carolina or Boston. But, they are both run-of-the-mill players doing fill-in work here.
We're over the cap now, and on borrowed time with that situation. One of these three players will be our #14 when everyone is healthy: Eaves, May or Miller. But which one?
Mike Babcock wants Wings to take more shots
"Mike Babcock wants Wings to take more shots" (-Headline DetNews)
What, 40 wasn't enough last night Mike? It's not the quantity of shots being taken by the Wings, it's the quality of the shots and where they're being taken from.
IMO, if you looked at the shot chart that the backup goalie keeps, it would look like a big horseshoe in our end with the open end of the horseshoe being down on the goal line. We seem to be shooting very little from the slot. There are lots of shots from right and left wings and the points. But those are not the most dangerous shots in the sport IMO.
Bottom line: Fla won with 20 shots. What did we need? 60 shots to win? We maybe need to adjust the attack tonight and start to shoot from the slot a little more.
Raf
Yep.. Zet was. And Lids was chasing shadows too, but for Raf to just pass the puck to that first forchecker on the boards and then stand back to watch the results was pretty bad.

I was appalled when I saw it in person, and seeing the video is even worse. That was just horrible defensive play by Raf on Weiss's goal. disgraceful. Raf should have had an assist on the goal. -2 night for my favorite NHL defenselessman.
Buddy Blueline
Buddy.. you brought up a good point when you said maybe it's time to see what Jeremy Williams can do up here.
I was at the game last night, so I had a good chance to watch Drew Miller all over the ice on his shifts. He seems like a good hockey player, but that's it...just "good". Did we really need another 3rd/4th liner? How many do we have now?
KH seems to have a hangup on bringing up players once he sends them down to GR. Like, they never return! When we purchased Miller I posted the statement that in doing so, KH has pretty much admitted that the depth guys that he picked this summer off the UFA list and the guys he has drafted in the past are just not up to snuff in his opinion or in the opinion of Jim Nill or whoever.
Drew Miler was waived by Tampa and let go by Anaheim for a reason, and I think it's that he has slow hands, and doesn't play as big as he is. He's got some size, but doesn't use it much. And he's not a speed merchant either. Just another average player, which we already have plenty of.
Miller's on a two-way contract. Maybe he should go down and we bring up Jeremy Williams. Williams seems to know how to score if nothing else, and when Zet isn't scoring in this team, nobody is!
