In the battle of the two worst teams in the NHL...

You doubt the Nashville Roster is better than TOs? Dude, Nashville's blueline is patrolled by Shea Webber, who in my opinion, might be the NHLs best defensemen despite my admiration for Nick Lidstrom. When you have him on your back end for 1/2 of each game, your are instantly better. Look at Philly this year with Pronger, he's made Emory a goalie again. And while Arnott isn't a NHL stud anymore, he is a veteran leader.

Toronto's roster sucks, Kessel just returned, they have a rookie and a bust sharing time in net, but more importanly, the team has no leadership right now, no face, no guy to point to, and no coach will succeed until they have someone to lead them. Is that Kessel? We'll see. With that said, I agree Wilson sucks as a coach.

NHL official admits referee erred

Story on MLive...

Mike Murphy, NHL senior vice president of hockey operations: "In all cases we want to get the right call. In this case it appears we didn't. But, I think sometimes when you have video review people expect perfection and that's never the case and we only let the fan down when they think it's going to be perfect. There are situations where video review can't intercede and we don't want it to intercede. I don't think you ever want video review refereeing a game. I like the way video review is. I think it works and you have to be careful how much you tinker with it."

Are we happy now?

Good long list and all but let me ask to put a few questions in perspective.

How much of that do you remember because you're a wings fan and it happened to your team?

How much of that long list is contributed to the success this team has had over the last 15 years? I mean it's a lot to deal with compared to other teams true, but who eles has been in teh position we've been as much as us either? If you were to ask a Aves fan about officiating in the late 90's what do you think they would have said about the abuse Foresberg took? I watched some old footage last year and he sometimes played with Draper and Igor riding him like a cowboy.

Lastly, how many times, yourself included, have we been on this forum saying the wings need to pick up more players and play to the style of game playoff officiating allows. Its not secret, and its cost us games in the past. We don't play that body out interference style of hockey to slow the fore check and the game down in our zone and we should, because they allow it. It's no secret, the year after the lockout aside, it happens every year, and as the playoffs get deeper, so does the whistle into the refs pocket, both sides. The Queens did it affectively last year neutralizing our fore check against a depleted team with tired and injured legs. As a matter of fact, we did it quite affectively in Games 1 and 2.

No Fix, No Conspiracy, just a horrible call

Homerly displaced his password for this username'fan

Well now you've opened my eyes, there IS a conspiracy. If ESPN's media topic show PTI says so, well then, it must be true, how can anyone question ESPN fodder with their wealth of knowledge and coverage on the game of hockey? A ref can be that incompetent, and the "intent" rule obviously allows him to do so.

Speaking of idgit though, and well the basic understanding of the English language, the point, which I clearly made several times, was not about anyone talking about the bunk officiating, it was about the idea of spinning one call into a NHL bias and conspiracy against the Wings. I wish you would go back and pull up my posts, give you a good refresher, you were probably one of many I likely told to grab a Kleenex and your binky and look in the mirror and realize when you cry about officiating you are what you hate, the Cindy Crysby of Hockey Fans. There was and is no officiating conspiracy, the Wings were banged up, out of gas, Hossa chocked, and we still took the Queens who skated easily through the East to 7 games. Last night, the ref made a crap call, it is what it is. They won, its hockey.

Have you ever heard that annoying song they play at the Joe when the other teams scores....something like get over it....get over it...

No Fix, No Conspiracy, just a horrible call

"happens way to much to the Wings for fans like myself" The real issue is that it happens too much, as a Wing fan, you only see, get emotional, and remember those missed or incorrect against the wings.

I will say there is something to be said about us winning and playing with the lead, as NHL refs do tend to give the team playing catchup the favorable PP opportunity here or there, that and sitting back in coverage and getting pressed will lead to you taking more penalties. In that regard we may take more calls.

Shawn, same here, I even said to my friend well we should be getting the next to power plays.

Milhouse - Conspiracy v Random Error

Ghost, I was writing that post and didn't see yours, it just submitted after.

Never the less, an article on one game is not going to change my mind, unless the headline was "NHL officials admit they were cohearsed into favoring Penguins" "Facts come out: NHL Officials were instructed to look the other way"

First of all it was one game, but secondly, we've talked about this at length, if something funny was going on, it would come out. Most people in and around hockey hate Gary Bettman, don't you think if there was a shred of misdoings someone would have already sold it, leaked it, something? That would be the article of a career uncovering something like this, especially in Cananda, it would sell millions of copies.

This article sounds like a fluff piece, a few reporters chit chatting and one writing an article speculating those thoughts further and its based on an obvious fact, of course the NHL was salivating over the thought of a Game 7. That kind of fluff, doesn't surprise me, it's just too easy of a story to sell.

Let me ask you a question that might give you time to pause and re-think your position, in your own article, they said the game was biased against Detroit, but not because of Detroit "the feeling amongst these professional hockey writers was that the NHL wanted the 2008 SCF to go to Game 7." Well, what if the Penguins had the 3-2 lead, and these reporters took a few missed calls and interpreted it as them biasing against the Pens to force a Game 7. Would you have printed that article, held it so dear to your heart, or discounted it as a fluff piece like I do?

Gary, I don't know it, because I don't agree with you.

Maybe because I have other shoe perspective is why I can take my wings hat off and look at it objectively. I've met some good friends traveling through work, hockey guys, and watching games with them and their buddies, its the same talk, the ice is tilted against their team, the refs are jobbing their team, the NHL hates their team. And when they find out I'm a Detroiter, I really take it, I mean in two different cities I had to hear that the NHL is in the Wings corner, gives us the calls, the breaks wants us to win for the TV ratings.

I'll say it again, the officiating is soooo inconsistent and poor, its far too easy to glob on to the missed and blow calls that affect your team, and think its only your team that is getting jobbed, but its not, and I do know that.

No Fix, No Conspiracy, just a horrible call

I think you guys are missing my point. I'm not saying that wasn't a huge blown call, nor am I discounting its importance, and for I would hope that the refs don't blow a call that bad this season even in our favor that evens things out. The call was wrong, it was atrocious case of ego, and there's no justifying it But two things.

One, am I surprised an NHL official made a bad call. No, I've been watching hockey my entire life. I changed my oil last week, in two months, I'll have to change it again, I'm not going to sit there and complain about it. I knew putting the oil in the engine it was coming out. I know flipping on an NHL game that the officiating is going to be inconsistent and poor.

Two, regardless of the sweater, each night, both teams must deal with and overcome inconsistent officiating just like the team across from them. This notion of the league being out to get us, or we are the only team that is hosed, or the ice is always tilted against the Wings, is just false. We are Wings fans so of course we only see and remember and get emotional about the calls blown in our favor, but over the course of a season, calls go both way, water finds its level. This one ridiculously went against us, but its not because we're the wings, its because the ref blew a clear cut call.

No Fix, No Conspiracy, just a horrible call

"Rarely if ever are we the beneficiary or at least it doesn't seem that way"
Only in rose colored glasses. If you were watching two teams not as a fan, you'd see it goes both ways. The NHL officiating is so inconsistent, its real easy to think your team is getting screwed, when really night in night out, all teams deal with the inconsistency and human error. Obviously the bad call affected us last night, but as a whole, we'll likely benefit in another game by some blow call.

For example.... everyone cries about the Queens in the finals having 6 men on the ice, its a clear cut rule right, but not so much about the other clear cut rule in Hank covering the puck in the crease. Or just last month, the forum was livid when Ozzie had the puck covered dead against I think Phoenix and they dug it out to score, but no mention in the week or so afterwards when Zetterberg scored the same way.
