You invite a very nice young lady to a hockey game and then tell she has to pay her own way. Is that how they do it in Montreal?

Ahh, back on one of my favorite subjects. Even more impressive to me that being 10th in wins: 52nd in losses. Those are regular season stats, but still incredible IMHO.
Luongo, in six fewer seasons, already has 32 more losses. Did you know that Luongo has lost more games than he's won? Granted that he plays a greater percentage of his team's games, as do many. However, any goalie that would probably come to your mind as "great" has more losses than Ossie, unless Bernie Parent is your favorite.
OSGOOD...
Pierre, I don't have an answer any more than you do. If we knew, we'd both be getting the big bucks and not posting on this forum. I suggest you drink another libation of your choice and not worry so much about it...you remind me often that it's only a game...
;^]
OSGOOD...
Spleen about Osgood;
...."Erratic at times but when he decides to focus he's at the top of the spectrum."
--Tell me..why cant he focus all the time ? Why is he so terrible at times, decent some other times, and good some times ?.
With this goalie you never know whose going to show up. Every shot is a stress in my basement. Even yesterday with only a two goalies could anyone from this site tells me they could relax ?
OSGOOD...
Dick, you are one difficult person to follow. Last year you were saying that Ozzie's ship has sunk, that he was an embarrassment to Detroit and that he didn't belong in a sweater sporting the Winged Wheel. Now you say it was one of Ken Holland's better moves and you're patting him on the back for signing him?
Osgood is what he is, a darn good goalie. Erratic at times but when he decides to focus he's at the top of the spectrum. Fifty shutouts and will shortly be passing up Grant's record ain't exactly chopped liver regardless of who tries to spin his stats and what he's done for Detroit.
As predictable as you are, I know your tune will change on his next loss...
OSGOOD...
Another of KHs good moves.Going on the cheap in net and bringing home the Cup in 2008 in doing so.MOST fans including myself screamed for him to get a better goalie. We were wrong. He was right.

As with any sport or any facet of any sport, it's not about how, but how many (in Osgoods case it's wins).
Many great goalies had unorthodox or unconventional techniques in stopping the puck such as Plante, Johnny Bower, and recently Hasek.
So to be continuously hung-up on technique is irrelevant.
This year, Osgood will pass Fuhr, and next year
Terry Sawchuk.
And as far as shots hitting the goal posts, well, some nights they are your friend; some nights, there not.
So whatever it takes to keep the puck out of the net, that's the bottom line.
Seems to me, the Wings had two $8,000,000 a year goalies at the same time, and didn't make it to the finals.
OSGOOD...
It seems so many here want a big-name goalie, one who can win games all by himself without any help from the defense. Not since back in the day with the exception of Hasek, (and he was sliced and diced) has Detroit had someone in net who could be considered such.
I'm not trying to make a case for Ozzie or any other net-minder but am always astounded at how our knowledgeable fans perceive this team.
If Detroit is supposed to hang on to the puck and keep shots from getting through to the goaler, it would seem apropos considering the formula, that we didn't need to spend six mil a year for a body between the pipes. A good goalie would suffice. And he would if the old system is followed and implemented.
The idea in this blending of a puck possession team with outstanding D and a couple of killer scoring lines, (in the past we could roll four that actually had a chance) is that Detroit didn't have to break the bank on a tender. And it's obvious that if our defense just shows up seventy percent of the time that's all it really takes.
