Re your 4:28pm post about Ozzie.
Don't quite agree that Ozzie only gets in in his first year of eligibility if it's a "lean" year.
Looking at the older guys who may retire over the next 2-3-4 years, ony way Ozzie doesn't get in first crack is if Brodeur, Lidstrom, S. Neidermeyer, Chelios, Recchi and Ozzie all call it quits at the same time. Since only 4 guys can make it each year, thisis the ony scenario wher ehe MIGHT gettede bumped.
We'll see.

I will probably be going to ednesday's game in Columbus if you can join me.

Mongo clearly has done his fact checking. Jimmy Howard clearly, if he was NHL caliber would have been forced into the #1 goaltending job in his rookie year. That's clearly the sensible thing to do with the guy who previously had two strong runs in the NHL and one terrible before this season. Because you earn jobs simply by remaining in the system, not by actually playing, right?
Floundering in net? Where've you been? At best, it's been pickereling.
Dick mc
Dick...what's your source on the Wings being fed up with Ozzie ?
Dick mc
Yes mongo I have heard the talk/rumors.
Dick mc
Ozzie has a problem in case you didn't know. Wings in general are fed-up baby sitting the wizard of OZ. Howard didn't learn much in GR. Just look at his style around the net. He's flounders in and out of position. Check it out. Wings are in a bind for sure and it tilts in Ozzies favor. If Howard was ready for Prime Time Ozzie would be #2 or waived in a hurry. They are fed up with Oz.

I don't need to denegrate your hockey knowledge. You do a pretty good job of doing it yourself by insisting that NHL teams play meaningless games. That simply isn't true. Baseball teams can lazy through a meaningless game, sleep on the bench, yuck it up, yawn, stretch, whatever. You simply can't do that in NHL hockey. Go out on the ice and relax for a shift, look up in the stands, goof off, or skate around with your head down while you do some fancy dangling because you were told that the game was meaningless and someone's gonna take your friggin' head off!
Take this scenario: LA Kings are out of the PO's. They play some other team that's also out of the PO's in April of some season. Is it a meaningless game? Absolutely not. It might be meaningless in the terms of making the PO's, but not in what the two teams need to prove. If they were meaningless games, the NHL would just cancel the balance of the season once all of the PO seedings are done.
Players on those teams are showing what they can do; trying to make a statement to their management as to the fact that the player belongs in the NHL. The they are playing for pride. Nobody lays down in this league. I guarantee that every undershirt will be totally sweat soaked in both locker rooms after that NHL game, even though it's between two non-contenders.

You can doubt anything that you like about me and my past in the game. Eveything I've ever printed is all true and much more. Did I ever make enough money in hockey to support a family? Heck no. Did I need to move into the real-world to set myself up financially? Yes. I didn't get the "breaks" that some of my peers in the game got. And other of my peers in the game had to do what I did..quit for financial or logistical reasons.
But I can GAURANTEE this: YOU never played the game. And YOU never coached the game. Your "unimportant" game theory, your DRW smuggness, and your silly soccer term about "pool play" are all laughable. They all scream of your ignorance of what the game of hockey is all about.
But you do print a mean "Lets Go Wings"! Stick with that last little sentence and you're at your proper level.
Dick Mc
Do you really believe in what you are saying Nick? About playimg preseason games as game 7 of playoffs? Do you want Dats, Zett, Lids block shots, try to win every battle near bord? You must be kidding! All point of preseason games is to bring guys to game shape, get quickness, reactions back without getting injured in meaningless games. Only guys fighting for a spot on roster would need to play like its 7th game of PO. Look at tomorrow's roster and you will see that game will be about giving opportunies to kids to shine and veterans to get in shape rather then winning at any cost.
Dick Mc
I don't know Dick, it seems like a very smug attitude to take. If I'm coaching that team, every game better be as important as the 7th game of the SC playoffs. I see no difference; never did. You would have hated to play for me! LOL!
I mean, what if the game that you didn't feel was important ends up a loss and that loss is the lost two points that caused you to have a tougher seeding vs. a tougher opponent in the PO's? That's why they are ALL important.
A team can NEVER feel that a game is not imporant..ever. You never want to have to press to get those two point back later in the season.
I'm going to see the Flyers tomorrow play us. I take this game as serious as any other, no matter if it's preseason, regular season or PO's. They're all the same to me in the importance factor, and it better be the same for the players and coaches or I'd lose respect for them. I will not pay to see posers. They can't fool me, believe me.

Dick Mc said: "Every game in an 82 game schedule for the Detroit Red Wings is not important"
Wrong IMO. Try telling that to Bab's. He'd look at you like your nuts! Try telling that to the team to "get them up" before a game. How about e-mailing that statement to KH? How about telling that to Mike Ilitch as he writes out paychecks in the millions of dollars to play games that are "unimportant". That's just plain crazy.
I can just hear Bab's pre-game speech: "Ok boys, this one doesn't mean anything. So let's go out there and entertain the cash-paying customers with play that looks like the game isn't important. That's what they came to see..a game that is not important!"
Dick Mc... every game played by every team in this league is just as important as every game we play. It's just that we win more of them most of the time than other teams.
So what would make DRW games important in your eyes? Do we need to suck like Columbus does to make our games important?
Dick Mc
I'm going to try to soften my style. I guess sometimes, when get pissed, or become frustrated here, I can come off sounding arrogant. But I rarely am trying to sound that harsh. As I said, I'm going to lighten up because I do want to stay as a poster here in decent standing and not one that's always being shot at.
Don't look for me to turn into some kind of chicken-crap "yes" man either; I'll still have my opinions, but the way I present them will be, hopefully, less caustic.
Dick Mc
If that post doesn't speak of fixing, what is it saying? Your manlove for KH is unbelievable. You can't see the forest for the trees, even in your own ridiculous posts.
go re-read your own post and tell me what you're saying there with statements like"
"The main fact is the league/refs will NOT help the Wings until they struggle to make the playoffs"-Dick Mc
The DRW's made the finals 6 times in the that last 15 years.
They won the cup 4 of those times. One of the times that we didn't win we were swept by NJ (1994-95). Were we the "best" team in hockey if we were swept? Did the refs not "help" us because they were set up by the league to "not" help us as you're saying in your post? That is just plain nuts.
The other time we made the finals and lost was this past playoff. We didn't have enough gas in the tank to pick up 4 lousy points to beat he Pitts. My theory was that maybe Q's point making ability, that KH seemed to miss while Q was in this organization, MIGHT have helped.
In that 15 year time frame, we didn't even make it to the finals 9 times. So you're saying that in those 9 times that we didn't make the finals, we were the best team and the refs didn't favor us because of league directives?
We have a fine team and organization, but please, you inference that we need the league and the league's refs to favor us with calls and help is just a fan's crutch of an excuse for the years that we didn't win it all.
And if you want to know how KH screwed up, just re-read my post regarding it. Last season's bottom defense decisions coming out of camp: Ericsson? sent to the minors. Cheli? Worthless Meech? Did nothing Lebda? Minor league thinker while on the ice. Q? waived and then 38 points in LA. Those are the facts Dick Mc. That's called a screw up. Anyone please: Show me how KH's plan for those 5 players worked for the benefit of this team and organization.
You so rarely talk hockey Dick Mc. Your posts are baseless for the most part. You live in some make-believe "fan's" world that's based on the results of the SC finals. The years we win the cup you're satisfied. The years we lose the cup, it can only be the refs/Bettman that caused us to lose. It has nothing to do with errors made in the front office or on the bench in your Red Wing seeing, rose colored glasses.
Back up your posts with some real facts and maybe your creditability wouldn't be so friggin' bad. And when you can't understand someone else's posts just say so instead of doing your sarcastic little "LOL's" that mean nothing.
Dick Mc
Your post of 7:11 PM is absolutely pure nonsense. Why do you post such trash? Show me a ref that has a hockey stick in his hands or throws a body check.
If what you say is true about the refs and game fixing and orchestrated outcomes, and you continue to follow this sport, then I truly question why you would waste your time with hockey! Do you also follow pro wrestling where the matches are scripted and fixed?
And your "meaningless pool play" is another thing that just needs to go away. If it's meaningless, don't bother watching. I don't get why you even bother with this sport at all. The regular season to you is meaningless and the outcome of the Stanley Cup, in your eyes, is fixed and orchestrated. Maybe it's time for you to find a new sport to follow eh? One that's honest and not meaningless.
Dick Mc
I'm actually more optimistic about this year than I usually am. Alot of talent spread out, didn't concentrate, that includes ours, but particularly in the West, it got weaker not stronger. The most formidable opponent in the West lost their #2 Dman in Pronger. Chicago didn't add the help it needed on the blueline, is much weaker in net, and will be counting on a choker to produce, Vancouver didn't add much. The Flamers seem to be the real contenders, but something just isn't right in the brew up there. They have much to playoff built talent no to advance, starting to think Kippersov might have been just been hot a few times and they've overplayed him to his career death. And of course, we all know what San Jose will do, they must eat with Noshowsa, and not even McCLendon has the Heimlich Maneuvers to get them out of the first round. To me, the path to the western conference is about as easy as it has in a long time. Am I missing anyone?
IMO, there are three questions:
1) Is the team burned out, 3 deep runs, 2 all the way plus olympics. I'd really like to see some guys take a pass.
2) Can Nick Listrom continue to be the best defensemen on the ice with another year of age
3) Will Bertuzzi be a positive or negative. By negative I mean in the box, by positive I mean, I don't care if all he does is stand around like a tree and lean on people, his body should help us wear teams down.
