DD's TO DO LIST
Look at those trades, T-Dog. I never said some trades don't work out. What I did say, was you don't get the same value back when you trade a Cy Young or MVP candidate.
You can bring up guys like Milton Bradley, but it isn't relevant to what I'm saying.
There's little doubt, if the Indians had kept Lee, Sabathia, Martinez, Thome, and Ramirez........they'd be better than they are today, and they'd have been better the last 7 seasons.
You have a player that has a serious chance to win an MVP or a Cy, ya hang on to him.
DD's TO DO LIST
T-Dog..........IF the players in question are ALREADY in the show, have been for multiple years, have been successful, and IF they're close to the same age..........then I'd agree.
Kemp and Kershaw? Sure. But of course, the Dodgers wouldn't do that deal.
But a bunch of AAA and lower kids? No thanks.
You rarely replace a Verlander or a Cabrera or a Santana or a Sabathia.
DD's TO DO LIST
Also, and I am not trying to be argumentative........but can someone tell me if there's ever been a ballclub that traded away superstars for prospects and "up and comers", that ever amounted to anything?
The Twins keep doing this.........and while they can catch the Tigers almost yearly by playing .750 ball in the last couple of weeks against weak Central Division foes, they go south faster'n a duck in winter come play-off time. Meanwhile, the centerpiece in their trading of Santana has just been shipped off for a SS who is hurt.
The Indians have shipped off back-to-back Cy Young winners, Martinez, Thome, and Ramirez............and they're on the cusp of greatness, huh?
I don't recall a team that has shipped off Cy Young winners or serious candidates, or true MVP candidates for prospects and "good" ballplayers, where it worked out.
You can ship out a Josh Beckett, and get a Hanley Ramirez.......but look who's won.
A team doesn't get true value for a player like Cabrera. If the Tigers need to move him for budget constraints, so be it. But don't pretend what we get back will make up for what we lost.
DD's TO DO LIST
Can anyone imagine what the lineup would look like without Cabrera? Even if we got a so-called "good" corner outfielder in the deal?
It wouldn't be pretty.
The latent cost would be an outstanding chance of waving guys like Verlander and Jackson good-bye as they begin their FA years. Neither one of 'em are gonna want to play for the Cleveland Indians north.
Oliver throws hard
Casper looks soft.

One of those hits was of the Texas Leaguer sort........right in front of Casper Wells in RF.
Wells sorta looked like Maggs on that play........lol.
Oliver throws hard
Wells is up 3rd this inning.

Already, the kid looks better than A Miller ever did.
What I'd have liked to see...
Was that a baseball post, BB?
Focus, doofus.
Torch will love this
It's been fun watching these kids.
Like Yoop says though............it's a hitters league. Guys are pounding the ball all over the place. Lots of hits, plenty of homers.
7-3 in the bottom of the 3rd.
Torch will love this
Haven't seen either, T-Dog.
An Atlanta Brave farmhand named Mike Minor gave up 7 runs in the first inning, only getting 1 out.
Ouch.

But the AFL "futures" type game is on the MLB Network.
They're hitting the ball all over the yard. Too bad Sizemore got hurt, woulda been a nice chance to see him play.
I see there's a couple of Tiger farmhand pitchers......but I didn't see Casper Wells. Don't know if he made the grade.
Polanco
All of the comments about keeping Polanco are persuasive, and mostly logical.
But they fail to point out one thing. His age. If one had a crystal ball and could tell me that PP will continue to perform in '10 and '11 the way he did the second half of '09, then I'd agree to bringing him back.
But middle infielders entering their mid-30's typically regress, and it's my opinion we'll be seeing more of the first half Polanco next year, then the second half Polanco.
I know, that's only opinion. But it's only opinion for those that want to keep Polanco that the opposite will occur.
Offer PP arby and sign him for another year? We could do worse. But a 2 or 3 year contract? Hello Guillen redux.
Magglio
We wanted him to drive in more than 50 runs, hitting in the middle of the order. We wanted him to hit more doubles and homers than Adam Everett.
If he would have had 35 doubles, 25 homers, and 110 rbi's..he coulda hit .250 and I doubt there would have been nearly as much complaining.
His season was awful. I don't care what he ended up hitting, average-wise.
Thames
Thames finally got his full-time, hit clean up chance this year.........and to tell the truth he was not up to the task.
He lost any aggressiveness, and every at-bat seemed to be behind 0-2.
It was a shame. After many had viewed him as having 40 homer potential, it turned out Leyland had gotten the most out of him in previous seasons playing him when he did. There really wasn't anything "more" coming, despite some extrapalating out his numbers to full season totals.
Marcus was an easy guy to like, and I wish it would have turned out better.
