Granderson

I love it when someone posted last night, gotta get rid of Legendary Lloyd as hitting coach, so Grandy can return to his 2007 form. Well, who do you think was Tigers hitting coach in 2007? Wasn't that also the year that Maggs had the best all around offensive season for a Tiger since Norm Cash in 1961. And wasn't legendary Lloyd the hitting coach in 2008 when Miggy led the AL in homers? Remember, Lloyd has been Tigers hitting coach since the end of the 2006 season.

And would someone please tell Granderson that his job in this world is as a professional baseball player. Not talk show host, not reality show host, not TV commentator, not chief fund raiser for every charity in Detroit or Chicago. His job is as a professional baseball player for the Detroit Tigers. At age 28, there's still plenty of time to setup his post baseball career after he hits like age 32 or 33. Right now, he should be concentrating on one thing and one thing only, the job that will pay him 5.5M in 2010, 8.25M in 2011 and 10M in 2012, or he can play centerfield for someone else other than the Tigers!

Hummmm!

Anybody ever stop to think that maybe one of the main Tiger points of interest on the Mariners might be a third baseman named Jack Hannahan? They certainly know Jack, having wetnursed him since they signed him out of the University of Minnesota in 2000 where he was Big Ten Player of the Year. He's still only 28, 29 in March. Played in 3 game for the 2006 AL Champion Tigers!

Pacman

Ramon Santiago a kid? Who you kiddin? He's 30 and according to most posters here, that's the age that middle infielders start to head downhill, not that Pacman was ever uphill!

Morrow

Problem is, lest we forget, Morrow spent most of if not all of the 2007 season in the M's bully, pitching in 60 big league games as a reliever. So I'd say the M's have given him a big chance to develop his skills, at least as a reliever!

Come On Folks

I post about a 3 team trade possibility, lifted from a USA Today sports guys Twitter page and all of a sudden, this forum turns it into a straight up deal? No speculation please on Morrow for Jackson until you know who the third team is.

If there's a third team, as Nightengale said, then guaranteed, it won't be Jackson for Morrow straight up. Anyway, Jackson, a quality, 26 year old, number 2 or number 3 starter with 27 victories over the last 2 years, for a 25 year old who has still to prove himself as a starter or reliever, makes no sense at all, absolutely no sense.

Washburn

Look folks, deals fail all the time. Just remember, at the time of the deal, Washburn looked like a great get. He'd just shutout the Tigers at the CoPa the week before and in 20 starts with the Mariners, he was leading the AL in ERA and was arguably the best lefthander in the league up to that point. His problem in Seattle had been no run support all season, leaving him with an 8-6 record thru 20 starts with a 2.64 ERA and he'd had a balky knee he was pitching with for most of the season, which DD says the Tigers knew about, and they made the deal anyway. The bad knee caught up with Jerrod and the Tigers and that was it. Off season surgery has corrected the issue.

Frankly, I'd like to see the Tigers re-sign him, but at less than the 10M a year he made for the past 3 seasons. Somewhere betwen 6 and 8M a year on a 2 year deal. He'd be a great settling down, veteran presense in the middle of their rotation, similar to what Kenny Rogers was in '06 and '07. He also has lots of playoff experience, having helped pitch the Angels to the 2002 World Championship and also having pitched in the '04 and '05 playoffs. Plus, the Tigers do need a lefty in their rotation. I'm sure the Tigers won't re-sign him, which is a shame. Indications are he wants to pitch for his hometown Brewers or Minny Ha Ha, which is close to his Wisconsin home. I also suppose Seattle isn't out of the picture either.

Possiblties?

I have not had a chance to read the posts since late this morning, so this may be old news, but Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting the Tigers, Mariners and an unknown third team could be involved in a 3 way trade possibility. Nightengale reports on his Twitter site that the Tigers would give up Edwin Jackson in the deal and the Mariners would give up Brandon Morrow. Hard to tell who would go where until you know who the third teams is.

RE-SIGN POLLY NOW!

Get it done. Put him at third, where the defending 2 time NL Champion Phillies want to play him if they can sign him and move Cringe to CF after you trade Grandy. Hey, no big deal there. Grandy hit 249, Cringe 230. Both Rob Deer line stuff. Use Grandy to get a young SS and a bullpen guy.

Verlander Gets Traded

If the Tigers determine they have no hope of re-signing him, similar to the Indians and Sabathia a couple of years ago. But the longer they wait to make that determination, the less they'll get in return for the "Dutchman."

Silverdome, Not 2 B Confused With Fukodome

Wouldn't it be a hoot, if these new Canadian owners, did the right thing and moved a Canadian Football League franchise in there? Somehow, I think it would fly, big time.

Trading Cabrera

Anyone here ever notice that there's a certain faction on this forum, who believe if the Tigers didn't draft them, or in the case of Asian and Latin American players, didn't sign them first, then they really aren't ours so lets trade 'em or dump 'em. You know, players like Cabrera, Polanco, Guillen, Bonderman, Laird, Polanco, Magglio, Nate, Edwin and of course, Polanco. Anyone notice that??

RE-SIGN POLANCO, NOW!

No, No

No film critics bit. Just like old flix and an occasional new one. Just bought volumn one of the Michael Shane, Private Detective series from Fox Films. Lloyd Nolan, a very underated character actor, starred in 7 Shayne films in the early 40's. I left this forum tonight, to watch one of them. Left to take a potty break and check the forum. All restored, black and white stuff. Volumn one has the first 4 films. Hopefully, they'll be a volumn 2 with the last 3. Very few actors could successfully pull off the wise cracking gumshoe type, like Lloyd Nolan. Now, back to Mike, er, Lloyd.

Speaking of Acting, Lol

Woodward was so good, he was nominated for an EMMY for each of the 4 seasons of "The Equalizer." He didn't win. He did win one Golden Globe for "The Equalizer." But as much as I liked his portrayal of ex spy Robert McCall, now helping those in need of help by "equalizing" their chances of beating the odds against the bad guys, I'll never forget him as "Breaker Morant."

As I recall, a true story, about Australian army officers of lower rank, facing trial and being executed for war crimes, actually committed by their superiors. Besides Woodward, "Breaker Morant" introduced us to such Australian stars as Byran Brown, the great Jack Thompson and the wonderful Australian director Bruce Beresford, who's gone on to direct such films as "Tender Mercies", "Driving Miss Daisy", "A Good Man In Africa", "Paradise Road" and "Double Jeopardy."

Speaking of Acting, Lol

Sorry to hear of the death this morning in Cornwall, England of one of my favorites, Edward Woodward. He was the British singer/actor who starred on this side of the pond 20 or more years ago in the CBS TV series "The Equalizer" as Robert McCall. He later went back to the other side of the pond and starred in a couple of British TV series, including "Common As Muck" and "Eastenders" neither of which I have seen.

But I remember him for 3 terrifc movies...."Young Winston" where he had a nice supporting role, "The Wicker Man" in which he was the star and one of the best movies to come out of the "Australian Invasion" of the late 70's and early and mid 80's, "Breaker Morant" with Woodward as "The Breaker." In my humble opinion, had the movies not been Australian, Woodward would have been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, he was that good in the role.

I know he had survived at least one heart attack before he did "The Equalizer." That came out that he had suffered one, during the time he was doing that series. And he had bypass surgery in the mid 1990's. I guess this time he'd been battling pneumonia and he finally succumbed today at age 79. He could act, and when he put his mind to it, he also was a terrific singer and apparently, although I never saw him perform, a great stage actor.
