The Tigers win 90 games
LOL San Diego - just because YOU say that those moves "would have resulted in more runs" doesn't even come close to making it so. It isn't a legit argument, it is, like mine as well, an opinion. Not shared by me or the pros who run the team apparently either. No biggie though....
The Tigers win 90 games
Postal - what exactly do you do when you come on here? That is the question.
The Tigers win 90 games
I picked the Tigers to win 83 games in 09, they won 86 and nearly(should have)won a weak division. It still irks me they didn't finish it with the division title, but they weren't some big underachievers by any stretch either.

SD- no, that wasn't the key at all. You then don't have a legit #4 hitter. You also conveniently forget how bad the offense was in the first half including Polanco who was awful. Granderson never truly got it going other than hitting for some pop and ok numbers vs RHP. So moving MC to 3 wouldn't really have helped at all. Ordonez never did a thing other than start to hit for a high average the last 2 months of the year, which was nice, but he still wasn't really producing runs per se. The offense sucked, top to bottom almost all year with only a few occasional exceptions. Not JL's fault. I'm not saying JL doesn't also deserve culpability here for the Tigers losing on the last (extra)day, he absolutely does, but he also had a terrible offensive team in first place 80% of the season. He is nowhere near as bad as you and the rest of his detractors make him out to be.

San Diego - correct. that is what I'm saying. He has the roster he has. Now, I don't disagree that someone else should have batted 3rd other than Clete Thomas the several times he tried that, but either way, they didn't have a legit guy to bat there or even 5th most of the season. That was never JL's fault. It was the hitters who were supposed to hit, and due to injury and guys hitting below what they were capable of, almost the whole lineup by the way(so it didn't matter where they hit in the lineup), so that isn't on JL. I know you and several others are biased against him, but he didn't fill out the 25 man roster, nor does he play the game once the ball drops.

Getting to 90 wins had little to nothing to do with "batting orders"...had lots to do with the batters themselves. They simply didn't hit enough most of the season.
Livin'
EJ's name is being bandied about because they might be able to "sell high". But that doesn't mean they'd give him away. In my opinion, a 26 year old starter with that arm, still affordable? I'd keep him unless the offer was really good....
Willis
I won't be overly shocked if DW gets released very soon as a measure to open up a spot on the 40 man.

Uhhh no BK. There was no "fix" in who wins these awards. Grienke was much better than CC this year. Verlander arguably was. Maybe you are living in a paranoid world?
Added to the 40 today
seems the names are as predicted....

Well of course I have no idea how/when/if a decision has been reached on Willis BK...kind of like you having zippo ideas on who wins what awards, or other predictions(even though you aren't in the "predictin' business...LOL). But my opinion is that it would be best for the Tigers, open up a spot on the 40 man roster as well, to release the aforementioned DW(it is a shame really), and move on. The whole deal has been a nightmare, and Dontrelle has all but lost his career. One of the sadder stories you'll see in baseball really, because he seems like a heckuva a good guy. Maybe he can catch on with a team that will let him pitch with no expectations in the minors for a full season? That is what I think "might" get him back to at least getting another shot. With the Tigers, they'd have to eventually promote him again to the majors and it just isn't time anymore for him...

I think Willis gets released. Probably even before spring training. Best for all parties. Willis is no longer a major leaguer and the disaster watching him fall apart is tough to take anymore.
Kevets
The one contract(in addition to Willis)that I hated "at the time", the very day it was signed, was Robertson's. It made no sense at that moment and with his resume'. But I will agree that some of the others seemed to be a good thing to do at the time, as well as good PR for the Tigers and how they treated their players. That too has some relevance when contracts are done. But all in all, most of the long term commitments have not worked out too well. And there is no question that if they knew going into this off season that money was going to be a huge issue, that letting Maggs contract vest was truly idiotic, pennant race or not.
'10, '11 and beyond
Yooper - keeping Jackson and Granderson, both with lots and lots of years of prime time baseball left is not treading water either...it is keeping guys in the core of their career. In addition, the Tigers could just as easily been a 90+ win team (as opposed to the 76 you mentioned) with any semblence of offense at all, even if the mostly proven guys they had just have had normal seasons.
Winter Meetings
If they are in Indy, then absolutly Torch/Vested must attend!
