I saw him pitch an inning against Detroit early in the season. Threw hard and threw strkes. The word this way at this time of year (other than this forum) is all Red-Wings, Pistons, College Football, and moans on the Lions. Not much BB talk. Those that I know that are die-hard fans are buying into the slashing payroll thing, and are flipping out that we're trading Granderson. Jackson doesn't get a whole lot of play, but I'm sure if a deal goes down for someone other than a "name" player, it will be criticized.

I said; it really doesn't matter to me keep him or trade him. Having trouble with your specs today? I think Jackson is a legitimate ML starter. Capable of double digit wins on almost any club. Just the kind of guy I like, big, strong, hard thrower.......a horse. I come from Bunning, McLain, Lolich, Morris; when it comes to pitching, power pitching is the ticket for me. Jackson fits that. However, so does others. When we traded for Jackson, the rumor had been we were looking at Putz. I liked Putz, but said at the time that I wish we would go for Morrow. Ended up we got Jackson. Good deal. Now, a Jackson for Morrow deal is ok with me too. Same type of pitcher. You dig?

I haven't got him movin' anywhere. Trade him......keep him, really doesn't matter to me. I think he's a solid pitcher, but not the guy we saw in the first half. Brandon Morrow would be a fair return.

53/Chris etc- yes, pretty close to what Chris is saying is how I see things. There is no question that a combo of poor contracts(not all his fault, but certainly alot due to DD)still being on the books as well as a horrible local economy is driving the way things seem to be going at the moment to the start of the off season. I keep coming back to the fact that several of the big contracts will indeed be done after this upcoming season, so why panic now? Are they really saying that the financial situation is in so much trouble that they can't wait out one more year, as well as make a move or 2 to improve a couple of needs? At the moment, that is what appears to be happening on the surface. Hopefully, they figure out that they still can contend in this average to below average division. In my opinion the Tigers are actually in as good of shape personnel wise(of course they can't let the bullpen go completely etc)to come back strong for the division as any team in it. Why not? The White Sox do now have Peavy to add to the reliable Buehrle, but that doesn't mean they are a great team elsewhere by any means. Minnesota will compete as they always do, but still are probably a mid 80's or so win team with that pitching staff. KC and Cleve aren't quite there yet. Do the Tigers play this season as if foreclosure on their business is imminent or do they actually hang around and maybe even add a couple of pieces? Yes, they have a couple of spots they need to get younger in going forward, and still can to an extent this year, but they don't need to punt on the season if they truly don't want to. It makes little sense to me....

And for some reason, you don't seem to listen. The franchise is a mess again, he never invested wisely, and when he did, it was only after years and years of money went into his hockey team. It's not an animated franchise, either. The players are detached robots, collecting huge amounts of money while contributing little. I have no idea why you continue to justify this insanity. You must have little else to do, or you really love the pizza. You keep harping on the fact that I said he'd never spend, and I keep telling you that it never would have happened without an NHL salary cap. The main issue here is not about money..it is all about ridiculously incompetent leadership and managerial stupidity. Finishing last with a payroll of $140 million is no easy feat. By the way, we are discussing baseball and the team we root for, this isn't a personal attack thing. I say we need to get rid of this GM immediately, you obviously don't agree. No big deal. I have always been a huge fan of hockey, know as much if not more than most people you'll encounter.

Torch, I respect you. I also respect your love for the DTs. However, you're spraying water from a garden hose on my boots and telling me it's raining with this argument. If you closely follow the DRWs, then you know that Ilitch never wanted a salary cap. He went along with it, according to all available reports, because the league didn't want to have the freaking New York Yankees on their hands -- which they had in my beloved DRWs. Now, if he could compete, and knew he could compete for a title, then he would spare no expense to do so. I said that then, I'm saying it now, I will continue to say it until he no longer owns these two teams. He did it for the DRWs, he has already proven that he will do it with the DTs. Again, where were the DTs ranked in payroll in MLB?
I respect you as a poster. I also think you have "STTTTTTYYYYYYYLLLEEEEEEE" (Gallager, 1983). So, I genuinely believe that you believe the situation is as you report. I believe differently. However, I'm sure I'm not alone on this site by expresssing the following: "who loves ya', baby?" (Savales, 1974).

He never, ever would have spent any money like he has on the Tigers had the NHL not imposed a salary cap. I was a huge dissenting voice on Sheffield from Day One.
It's not all about money, either. I don't care what they spend. But to say they cannot invest in the team now for any reason is bogus. DD has done a rotten job as GM. Comparing him to Joe Klein, Randy Smith or any other individual has nothing to do with the equation. Hairpuck ignored the team for years. Can't be argued.

Not rage, just commentary with a flair. You attempt to post in that manner, but you're simply not bright enough to pull it off. Good try though.

Sizemore has been a favorite of mine since the day he was drafted. I think he will be a good player. Polanco isn't washed up, and he isn't expensive. There is room for both. If it were my call, Sizemore would get some time at SS (beefing up our offense, while cutting the D), play the bulk at 2B, bring an OF's glove to ST, and be my Ben Zobrist. Polanco should get a 1 year deal. This isn't an "either/or".
The other factor is health. Sizemore just may be one of those guys (Guillen type) that falls victim to injury. Certainly not enough to be a trend, but season ending wrist problems in 08, and closing out 09 with a broke ankle, tells me we may want some insurance. In a line-up that includes Laird, Inge, and Everett, and is counting on major come-backs from Granderson, Magglio, and Guillen, rolling the dice that Don Kelly, Ramon Santiago, Wil Rhymes, or Mike Hollimon can fill a hole (if necessary) is just plain stupid. Of course some guys will throw $50 on a hard 10.
I'll take the steady, reliable, cheap, and intangible+ Polly on a 1 year deal, and ease Sizemore into the picture.

Say what you want about Torch, but he's a Tiger fan on a Tiger site.
Not a Yankee fan trolling, handing out gibberish-laden baubles of wisdom such as "Jeter is better'n TGAE".........lol.
Me? I'll take the churlish Tiger fan over the Yankee troll who doesn't like the way Verlander wears his cap.
But, that's only my opinion, as logical as it sounds.

Very possible...or it may have been from forgetting to cleanse his hands after touching livestock, weeds and then drinking water out of the creek.

I'm picturing when the Little House on the Prairie village team took on the big time rival village with the fancy uniforms and Mike Landon scored the winning run - then went home and plowed the field, fixed the roof, milked the cows, came in for grub, read to the kids from the Bible, blew out all the candles, and bedded the wife up in the loft.

Hahahaha. And we also didn't have morons continually saying that a player was going to win an MVP when there was absolutely no chance of it happening.
Actually, that may have happened, but we pelted them with bolts, batteries, produce and fists and they shut up immediately.Reply
Well Torch, I'm picturing a cross between Old Man Potter from "Its a Wonderful Life" and Grampa from "The Waltons" as I read those...
