MVP
Make it a group award for steroid users everywhere.
MVP
Yooper - well illustrated. The Yankess probably make the post season with a AAAA player replacing Jeter. The Twins don't get a sniff with a AAAA player replacing Mauer. So, Mauer is more valuable to the Twins than Jeter is to the Yankees.
Mauer also had a pretty decent year!
MVP
I don't get all caught up in MVP stuff. I also don't hate Derek Jeter. He's a tremendous ballplayer and he's not as bad on defense as the legend has grown to make him out to be....many say he just had his finest defensive season (which is a little hard to believe at his age).
But I'd say when thinking about the MVP.....if we used the "Tigers trade with" scenario it goes something like this: If the Yankees acquired Everett/Santiago to play SS for Jeter, its possible the Yankees still might have won that division with the surrounding cast. If the Twins had traded Joe Mauer for Gerald Laird there is only a small chance the Twins would have likely sniffed .500.
MVP
The MVP for this series was the Tampa coach for taking out Neiman and Davis-should have given them a shot at complete games.
MVP
The award should be given for exploits on the field of play and not for off field accomplishments which did not his team in pennant drive. Off field accomplishments are rewarded at the ESPY'S for one. Longevity such as Jeter has should not enter into MVP voting. Longevity is rewarded by being elected with HOF
MVP is cheapened when off field things are included. GO TIGERS!!!
MVP
for those that think that voters only vote for players from playoff teams they really need to look at it. It happens more often then not, but certainly if a guy is having a great season offensively(typically it is for offense), then the voters reward it. If the Twins just stay reasonably in the hunt, and maybe even if they don't at this point, there is no doubt in my mind that the voters aren't going to deny Joe Mauer of this award. He is a catcher, very strong defensively, hit for incredible average(maybe the best hitting catcher ever already), and has finally added power and run production to his list of feats this year. He is a stud in a nutshell. Chris D points to Teixeira, but in reality overall, Cabrera is having as good of a season(much better in batting average)with almost no protection around him this year, and Teixeira may have as much or more hitters around him then anyone in the game. I think the Yanks could be at or near the top of their division without him even. He is great though, and should be in the discussion......By the way, if Verlander has a reasonably strong finish and the Tigers win their division, I think he is in the top 2 candidates for the Cy Young.
MVP
Raburn has my vote....; )
mvp
I cant see anyway Verlander gets the MVP without pitching at least 1 no-hitter,winning 20-22 games, and having at least 250 strikeouts. No doubt, he is the cream of the crop and probably the Tigers MVP. I just dont see any pitcher winning it without having above lights-out numbers.Randy Johnson should have a couple mvps if Verlander gets votes for this season. Not taking anything away from him just pitchers dont win that award.
It prob will be tex, mainly b/c its hard to imagine cabrera getting it with all the hate he gets from tiger fans on here.
mvp
The Twins finish third with Mauer, third or fourth without him. Ho, hum. Best player? He probably gets it. MVP? I think it has to be a playoff team. Teix, Morales, Verlander, Cabrera.... Probably Teix.
mvp
its really a no brainer if I voted today. Mauer is a easy pick. best avg. 25 homers and 77rbi so far.
MVP
If Miggy keeps hitting, as he has been the past week to 10 days, for the rest of the season like I think he will, don't count out the big fella in any MVP voting. This guy could just explode and finish the season with 35 to 40 homers, 120 RBI and a 335 to 340 batting average. When he gets hot, as we saw last seocnd for the final three months, his bat just goes insane!
MVP
Suck it up girls, it's all subjective. What's fact is the AL won and Grandy hit a key triple and scored the GWer.
Now how does that play this fall for our guys? I kinda think HFA isn't that great, the timing was all whack in '06 and last year. But the 3-bagger is a positve on 2 fronts: 1. In STL, a NL park and B. Maybe he'll get his swing back now and pick his #'s up.
MVP
Sorry, I watched the trajectory SEVEN times and each time it hits the top of the wall. Crawford's glove was still going upward as he caught it, and ended over the wall - but the ball wouldn't have cleared the fence.
MVP
The bottom line is if Crawford had dropped it they would have called it an error.
MVP
Sorry Kevets I saw it as out all six times I looked at it.
