That's how Jimmy does it!!... with food in his mouth...lol

GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Those who believe Polanco should be offered arbitration are finding themselves in a group growing thinner as the days pass. Polanco has done nothing whatever wrong except get older and have a young kid who's ready for mlb nipping at his heels. I still don't have reasons to believe Sizemore can just jump to the major league level and hit enough to justify his defensive shortcomings. No doubt the Tigers are going to be much younger in 2011 and much lighter on the spending side of the ledger when the oldsters begin dropping off the payroll. I suppose in a perfect world Polanco remains for one year after accepting arbitration and then Sizemore has been gradually processed into the role of full-time 2nd baseman. This is not what Polanco wants and it's hard to blame him for that. The guy is 34, still at the top of the heap with another gold glove and good offensive second half. He's proved his consistency as a contact hitter and hit value with RISP or moving them up. He desires a longer pact. He sees Visquel still playing at 40 so why not give a three year deal? DD won't because of Sizemore, not because Polanco can't get a longer deal. Apparently, DD is not frightened of just declaring Sizemore "ready" and throwing him in. Either way, sooner or later, Sizemore appears to be the 2nd sacker. I'm all right with either route for 2010.
Ordonez must be limited to 120 games and less than 500 PA's?
What if he just creams the ball? What about Carlos and coming back strong in LF? Do you send Wells down again and let Guillen play the field or make him hit in the DH slot?
Those two in the outfield: Dumbo and Babar roaming the corners with Wiley Coyote in CF. Inge at 3rd on gimpy knees. 2010 shapes up to be a near "fracasso", a messhuga. And where is the SS? Dear me, Mr. I, do ya think there's any chance to contend without a closer?
On to fun stuff later in the day. If the Lions lose to the Cleveland Mistakes today, then Ford should send them to Mexico and South America where he put the rest of his NAFTA "stuff." Another push for midwest football dominance. Natural bottom-feeder rivalry.
Y'all have a nice day!
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Brian yesterday-"The problem with rumors is that everyone likes to jump on the bandwagon and add their useless two cents to what MIGHT happen if this, if that and if come. Bunk!"
And ToDay
" This is supposed to be an opinion and fact exchange, not an occasion for venting one's personality disorders and neuroses"
It appears that Brian can vent but everyone else should watch posting their "useless two cents".Quite a lad. That Brian.
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
You can tell the mood of Tiger fans when everyone is getting attacked. Some of the trollishness, the language, the personal critical words and poor behavior are simply unacceptable and ridiculous. This is supposed to be an opinion and fact exchange, not an occasion for venting one's personality disorders and neuroses. I for one have misgivings about continuing to post here. At times I don't even like reading other posts and need to sift through all the garbage to find the pearls of wisdom that exist. I don't have to share everyone else's opinion. Sometimes I'm shocked by the relationship of well-researched stats to a player's worth and even amazed at some of the possibilities that I didn't conceive of. This forum is worth it when there are "baseball" contributions and talk of a meaningful nature. All abusers pretty much know who you are. I don't need to say any more.
Have a nice day and a good evening, too!!
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Nice article Wojo. Certainly there's other voices of reason around. Trading Granderson, Jackson or Laird is simply not a wise idea.
However, filling holes may not be totally feasible from within. 2B with Sizemore? Maybe. SS? Iorg-no way Santiago-not full time Nunez-not ready Perhaps this is why DD is listening. Listening is a good thing. So the Tigers will deal from some strength, but I hope warily.
Y'all have a nice day!

GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Isn't that part of what a forum about Tiger baseball is all about? If Brian glanced upwards(to the left) at the two words heading this forum instead of pounding words out on the keyboard to post,he'd understand.
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Half full, or half empty?
For me, conjecture about possible deals is fun; it lets me play GM, it allows me to experiment with lineups and bounce ideas off others. I frankly don't care if none of my out loud musings come true. I enjoy the hot stove anyway.
That's the "half full" approach, and it's my preference.
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Community contributor, all-around good guy, competent player entering his prime years, power hitter.....yeah, let's jettison Granderson. I simply don't trust DD anymore. Where's Fetzer or McHale when you need 'em?
Oh, good morning, indeed! Y'all have a nice day!

The problem with rumors is that everyone likes to jump on the bandwagon and add their useless two cents to what MIGHT happen if this, if that and if come. Bunk!
Granderson, Jackson and Laird draw little salary now and can be smartly paid in 2011. In the latter we jettison all but Guillen's putrid $13M. As for the latter, I'm not so certain he can't recapture some of his 2007 magic, and given a chance, adequately cover LF for one more season. With some DH and rest, he could even avoid injury.
I just wonder if DD is in an explosive, crash the team mode?
I haven't heard anything at all and I don't believe he lets on much.
So, if you want to hang your Tiger hat on a bunch of rumors, be the forum's guest! To me, it's meaningless drivel until DD does something, anything to improve the team or simply does nothing and leaves it as is, signing who he cares to share the 2010 burden. Because, if things don't happen, it will be a pretty mediocre season. Holes to fill and FA's to sign. That's all and fix it from within this year? That could be what he does unless he hears a solid, substantial trade offering.
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Better than last night's posts! I can't say enough about how awful it is to be faced with payroll of millions (@70M)
for players who have had severe challenges, injuries and poor play over the life of their current contracts or in the last season and a half. Strapping management and pushing DD into a corner where he's pretty much dependent on relying upon these guys: Bonderman, Guillen, Ordonez, Willis, Inge, and Robertson to put up some good numbers to justify the huge sums of money they'll be paid.
I argued last night with Tiger Dog about the forseeability of these things happening. The reason I don't play the anti DD card and just simply ask for his head on a platter is because I believe some of these contracts were, in fact the majority of them, were justified at the time and found then to be wanting because of exigent circumstances. To basically totally pan DD for this situation is not correct. No one in their right business mind would have signed them to these contracts anticipating or forseeing failure. I certainly don't ascribe that to DD. Perhaps the solution is never to enter into long term arrangements with players, kick them to the curb when they're injured or never sign anyone who's any good at all because you feel they might get hurt or not perform as well at age 34 as at age 30. Just my opinion.
Trade rumors, Marc, are bunk. Until I hear a DD conversation and see a deal in black and white, it remains speculation and it can be frightful, disconcerting, exciting, and controversial all at the same time. I suppose that's why rumors get circulated. It sells excitement and the interest in the team. But until I see it, I wouldn't believe DD could fall for Jackson or Granderson getting traded without some huge return. Or perhaps DD should "foresee" that the players he would get wouldn't be any good.
Hah!
Have a nice day, y'all.
Rumors stink.

SETTLE DOWWWWWWNNNNNN!!! Rumors. Whatever the talking heads and idiots talk about is senseless, useless garbage! Jackson @$4M appears a bargain and Laird goes nowhere!
I can believe the reported statements about DD talking to everybody about anybody. So what? Why not? Doing a blockbuster trade....for whom? why? Makes no sense to tear down in an instant what DD luckily created over a season....a number 2 starter and a fine catcher for what? for whom? With $72M in foul contracts paying for only hope of comebacks and better performance, a few Mil here and there for REAL, SOLID PERFORMERS is a good thing. DD would play the fool were such a trade prospect seriously entertained.
2010 will be hit or miss (pun intended) on comebacks and vesting and contracted performance. There's something wrong with just about every position except Verlander. What? Jettison the whole bunch. I am not satisfied with ANYTHING ABOUT THIS TEAM. I am accepting, though, of its limitations and have faith in its ability to contend. With a few tweaks here and there and some playing like baseball players, not spoiled millionaires, the Tigers could win the Central. They have also proven that such hopes are easily dashed through poor play, bad attitudes and injury.
DD has not done his job without spending scads of money on castoffs who have an inflated idea of their worth and their abilities. Paying so much for so little is a hallmark of DD's regime. It has been successful only because the residual ability of many of the players has carried the day when combined with others either of similar status or those who with youth and vigor and some talent were on the scene to fill the gaps and make the plays. However, DD's teams have never won the Central and made the playoffs only once to the World Series. Not enough for the kind of money he spends on the players. Why do teams like the Twins contend year by year? and for far less money. I think it's got to be because they're better judges of talent, how to pay for it and how to keep it.
If I were the owner, DD would be gone after this season. I'd ask someone else to spend that $70M coming off the books for salary (and not on the same cast of characters).
GO GIT 'EM TIGERS!!
No more rumors!

"Seems to me Ilitch has the money no matter what. It didn't block him in the hockey arena, so why would it here?"
---------------------------
When the Wings payroll number that of George Steinbrenner's M.O. in MLB, every seat was sold in the Joe Louis for over 10 years. Apparel / souvenier sales almost doubled most-all NHL teams in most of those seasons.
Do that in Detroit this winter -- then watch Ilitch spend more.
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!
Well, all six have now filed formally for Free agency i.e. Huff, Washburn, Rodney, Lyon, Everett and Polanco....Thames and Treanor don't need to since they are already free agents. Soooo, who to keep? Well, were it in my book of responsibilities, I would sign Rodney, Lyon, Everett AND Polanco but certainly approach each very differently. DD has a large charge with these guys who really form a core part of this team: up the middle defense and the 8th & 9th innings. Signing them and retaining their happy faces for 2010 is in my opinion a necessity unless we simply want to blow up the team. Perhaps there are other avenues that DD could pursue. Why? In the case of Rodney and Polanco who want longer term contracts, the thinking, of course, is not so clear. We might get by with one year contracts on Lyon and Everett. This is going to be very interesting to watch develop and may make a few of the fans pretty angry when the results fall out. I'd like them back to redress the 2009 debacle....it reminding me of the grave disappointment of 1967's loss to the Red Sox and then (praise the baseball gods!), the great 1968 campaign!
The last was just a note of optimism and fervor for the retribution I would like to see handed to the Twins.
Crawford was re-upped by Tampa Bay.
There's not much on the free agent list but Jason Bay would be a nice bauble to have. It's quite the shameful thing that DD has accumulated some very stinko contract obligations. Oh, well, I am not a big believer in less spending. Seems to me Ilitch has the money no matter what. It didn't block him in the hockey arena, so why would it here?
GOOD MORNING TIGERTOWN!!!

Well, if the only thing to write articles about is Kirk Gibson being able to manage, I want no part of posting about the Tigers today! My choice would be Brookens if it came to that, but JL is still the MAN. So, what's the article over? Another athlete trying to overcome his personality peccadilloes to become a manager? or is this an altered state perhaps turning a new leaf over and asking forgiveness for his outrageously brusque, blunt and overbearing behaviors? I don't even care for Gibson's brand of rock 'em-sock 'em baseball. There's a place for aggression, but there would be a few more heads hunted by pitchers on his staff, I'm sure. Get over it and let JL do his job. If you want a good replacement, start with Tommy Brookens.
Go git 'em in the winter, Tiger management. Fill those holes and sign those players. SIGN POLANCO!
