Chapman
If the Tigers can't sign him, maybe Sidd Finch is still looking for a gig.
Heard he throws 160+...

I've got pretty much zero interest in that guy. He's basically a big league free agent - and he probably will get more yrs and more dollars than John Lackey. He's going to get a bigger contract than the Bonderman extention that blew up in our faces - and he's going to get more money than Robertson and Willis combined. Of course - there the chance that's he's good enough to be worth that cash for at least part of the deal - but you're talking very high risk there.
Love to see the Tigers add a starting pitcher this yr - but I want to see them playing in that short term market with Rich Harden, Carl Pavano, and Jerrod Washburn.

10/27,Yahoo Sports- "We're basically just at the interest level. Because of the nature, I think it's a situation where they're going to take the time to allow clubs to spend some time with the player and see who he is," said Tom Moore, Detroit's Director of International Scouting to MLB.
AND
"The Toronto Blue Jays are apparently saying that they don't have the dough to make a competitive offer for Chapman."
With all the major players ready to hit the heighths throwing money at this guy,the only way this may happen in Detroit is if Ilitch has another "Cabrera"urge.
I think the Tigers' Moore danced around the subject but said the same thing as the Jays.[except more words]

Tigers should avoid Chapman.... he is another Zumaya with control issues. DD just salivates around those hard throwers and then he has the nerve to trade away the "softer" throwers like Jair Jurrjens and Chad Durbin because they don't fit his style. How many years does DD have left on his contract???

Tim Dierkes at MLBTR thinks Aroldis Chapman will get a deal around $25M and that the Red Sox are the favorite. He has 5 teams in the hunt....NYY, BOS, BAL, STL, and DET (BPro figures the Angels will leap into this in a big way however). A big litmus test will come when Chapman throws for clubs soon.....then the rubber will meet the road on contract offers.

Top Cuban pitcher Aroldis Chapman defected from the Cuban national team, according to ESPN.
Chapman is a 21-year-old lefty that can hurl the ball over 100 mph and is considered by many to be the top left-handed pitching prospect in the world. He reportedly left his hotel in Rotterdam, where the Cuban national was playing in a tournament, and never returned. Should this be true, he will be looking to sign a big-money deal with a major league team soon.

ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure Jr. gathered some estimates and hears that the 21-year-old Cuban defector, Aroldis Chapman, could sign a deal worth between $30-60MM. The Yankers will be in on that one.

* The Astros signed shortstop Jonathan Mejia for about $370k, according to Badler.
* As mentioned in another post, the Yankees added pitcher Chris Cabrera for $400k, shortstop Damian Arredondo for $850k and catcher Gary Sanchez for about $3MM.
* Badler reports that the A's signed Wilfredo Solano, who will probably move to third.
* MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports that the A's also signed Wilman Martinez, an infielder, and Alfred Sosa, an outfielder.
* The Pirates signed a trio of Taiwanese prospects, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Ping-Hung Chi, Sheng-Cin Hong and Chih-Wei Hsu.
* Badler reports that the Blue Jays signed 16-year-old catcher Santiago Nessy.
* The Yankees agreed to terms with Dominican shortstop Damian Arredondo, according to Baseball America.
* Kovacevic has another one: The Royals have reportedly inked Nicaraguan third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert for a bonus "in the range" of $1.5MM.
