Onward to the Reality Bowl
There is a certain sadness that comes with the last Big Ten games of the season. It's kind of like when the golf course closes for the season. Or, sitting in the office waiting for the dentist to drill one of your teeth.
I would trade all these bowls for an eight team playoff. But, it appears that the bowls are one tradition that the fans won't be able to shed easily. I can't say I am even looking forward to watching the Rose Bowl this year. I would like to see Ohio State play Cincinnati. Or, TCU play an SEC team. Instead of watching the Pac 10 champ play Ohio State.
So I'll be watching the Spartans in some lower level bowl. What a disappointing season this turned out to be. MSU got a win against UM and a strong comeback against Purdue, along with a solid win against Northwestern. Not much to hang on our hats on. We need improvement on the OL and DL.
UM hangs tough with the Buckeyes. Does that mean that:
(A) UM isn't as bad as has been reported here, or
(B) The Big Ten is mediocre this year?
I've got an idea
How about if all you guys that want to fire RR just start cheering for the Spartans? And the next time UM beats MSU you can jump back on board the band wagon. By the way, I'll need to find out from Captain Morgan what became of Old Yeller Two band wagon.

"It's one thing to put up points against a cocky school like MSU" KKBassist
If you like the team they play with confidence. If you don't like them they are cocky? I don't know of any teams with five losses that could be called cocky. Certainly losing four very close games is a humbling experience. Your analysis is confusing. Thanks for keeping us humble KKB.

The book is called Time Racer. It may not be in your book store yet. I'll let you know when I learn more about the release.

The easiest way to evaluate any coach is with wins and losses.
It also is important to take into consideration his ability to attract recruits. RR has done well in this area, especially if Gardner comes aboard in February.
This time has been difficult for you and the regulars because you have never experienced anything like it. But, USC, Oklahoma, and even Florida have had lean years. I understand the frustration because you are on the bottom looking up, but this too shall pass. Hang in there, young friend.
something you should know
Some of you know but others may want to learn that TC is a creative man who has just published his first novel.
He is also very humble and wouldn't want to promote that in this room. He is going on the road to promote sales of his book.

The premise of your remark is that all teams break the rules.
We are in agreement that may be true. However, it is unlikely that you can convince the officer that pulled you over not to give you a ticket because everyone else was speeding too. It is better to pay the fine and hope that you aren't stopped again.
Joy in the Journey
I found it amusing to listen to the howling from ericn, a wolf pup, who berates the MSU fans for celebrating a victory that gets them to a bowl game.
Now, don't get me wrong. I still get angry when the Spartans lose a close game that could have gone either way. Or MD uses the prevent defense and the opposing team quickly moves down the field in the final minutes. My point is that if someone, such as ericn, is solely focused on the destination, (for him a national championship), you can lose what I would call the joy in the journey.
Many times I drove my oldest daughter from Midland to a college in northern Wisconsin. We always opted to make frequent stops along highway two in the U.P. The view along Lake Michigan was magnificent. And we even found a restaurant in Escanaba that became a favorite. There was a joy in the journey that would have been lost had we only focused on getting to our destination.
The same can be said for a football fan. There are one hundred and twenty some major college teams. Only one will be the national champion. It doesn't mean that the others can't find some joy in the journey.

good thoughts there. I got to give MD some credit for going after Keshawn, who for some reason was not highly recruited.
A penalty for Purdue Pete
One of the most bizarre penalties of the year was given to Purdue after its running back scored a touchdown. Poor guy had the misfortune of being hugged by Pete and then flagged by an official. The rule says that you can't celebrate a touchdown with the school mascot.
I like to see celebration and passion in the college game. In my view this rule only serves to make the NCAA more like the No Fun League.

You sound a lot like johnny 15. If so, as Chuck Berry used to say "Johnny B. Goode" Go, go, johnny go.

Lessons learned from this football season
1. HUGE has no credibility. Before the season started I was listening to him rambling. "How many national championships will Rich Rodriquez win at Michigan? I think he will get more than one." HUGE, come on now.
2. Not to look at the polls until the half way mark of the season. I doubt if the UM fans here believed they belonged in the top twenty five after week four.
3. Just because a player isn't starting doesn't mean he isn't good. (Ashton Leggett) There may be something that we don't observe, like fumbling the ball during practice or problems picking up pass protection.
4. Not to pass judgment on others. My addiction to college football is just as strong as cocaine to an addict. It's something I need to get a handle on so that it doesn't replace things in life that should be a higher priority. 5. I appreciate the comments and personalities on Big Ten Forum.
