UM talent
There is no way anyone can convince me that UM has last place talent. That is a joke. They were coached into a last place finish. UM had middle of the pack talent minimum and should have finished as such. UM should have been 7-5, not 5-7.
That being said, it appears RR will get a 3rd year and the program, alumni and the entire fanbase need to get behind the coach and end the circus and at least attempt to put the man in position to succeed.
If not it is a waste of another season.
bonehead bob
Not me bob. You haven't posted my way and vice versa in quite awhile and certainly not during this season that I can tell. I went back and checked our posts all the way back to September and nothing so don't know what to tell you but it wasn't me.
ahem....
I do however agree with the last part of your post.

We agree 100% on everything but the actual number and yes we are splitting hairs. It was a complete embarassment like none I have ever seen at UM stadium. An embarassment I never want to see or go through again.
UM season ticket holders should have supported the program and used their tickets and attended the game. If not make sure they are used by someone else you is a UM fan. They gave up on their team and program and are responsible for that embarassing scene yesterday.
That scened would have NEVER played out in the Shoe under any set of circumstances.

I was at the game and we all talked about how many Buckeye fans were there all game long. I don't need an arial view. Sadly we tried doing the math. I was in sec 36 row 93 and had a view of the entire stadium. There were about 35,000 Buckeye fans there.
Again, 75,000 means that there were 3 out of every 4 Buckeyes. Not possible. The Buckeyes filled the top 8 to 10 rows of the south end zone and had a large contingent in sec 18 near the field. The rest were scattered through out the crowd. An excellent showing by them but not the ridiculous numbers that you are spewing.
Another way to do the math. The student section is about 20,000. Subtract that and you have 90,000 seats left and are you really trying to say that there were only 15,000 of us left through out the rest of the stadium? Please.
I know you are upset, so am I but how about some perspective. You can still be mad without being irrational.

I was just getting ready to post nearly the same thing about UM fans being ashamed for selling their tickets, etc. What I cannot do however is agree with your ridiculous assessment of the crowd. I was there and there were not 75,000 Buckeye fans there, not even close. That is a ridiculous number. There were more likely about 35,000 or 1/3 Buckeye fans yesterday which is still a ridiculously high number but 75,000? That would mean 3 out of every 4 seats was a Buckeye? C'mon.
Lady Blue the finale
The problem that RR now faces is that he has combined poor performance on the field with a circus like atmosphere off it. Regardless of whether it is justified or not, his doing or not, it is a circus and shark like feeding frenzy around the program right now and many within and around do not like it. They have never been exposed to something like this and combined with on field futility not seen in decades you get some really pissed off people.
The circumstances surrounding the hiring combined with his ill fated and ugly attempt to not pay his buy out started him out on the wrong foot immediately. This would have all gone away with wins and no further issues or hiccups.
You then have a series of transfers(no bid deal in of itself), the alleged practice violations and national media scrutiny that followed, public sideline arguements among players, coaches and each other(again no big deal in of itself) and finally this whole "the practice reports were nowhere to be found but now it is fixed" problem and you see where I am going with this. It has been a circus in AA for 2 years now and it has to stop one way or the other.
I would love for it to stop by the in fighting ending and the program getting behind their coach, the allegation being proven false and going away and the team starts to win on the field. That is what I would love to see. Problem is that I don't see all that happening and the eventual and inevitable conclusion being the firing of Rich Rod.
I wish it wasn't so and would love nothing more than to watch a stirring victory tomorrow that turns this whole thing around. I will be there and cheering my arse off for it.
Lady Blue part 2
Sorry, had a couple appts get in my way of posting. lol
While I have supported RR and still think he is a very, very good coach, you cannot deny that he has done a pretty lousy job so far at UM. That does not mean that with the total support of the program that he can't ultimately be successful. He can. I can't however look at what he has done in 2 years and be anything other than critical.
We have gotten about what I expected out of the offense so far. Last year I had zero expectation due to a new system and no QB. This year has been a definite improvement although they have regressed recently partly attributable to tougher competetion. All in all though, the offense has not been the issue and I would expect them to be even better again next year if he is still here.
Defensively though it has been an unmitigated disaster and it is not entirely due to their talent. Graham, Martin, Van Bergen, Roh, Mouton, Ezeh, Brown, Warren and Woolfolk were all highly recruited players that have talent. You cannot tell me that they are not talented enough to at minimum be average defensively. An average defense and this team is minimum 2 games better and many people are off his back. Not all but at least some.
The Illinois and Purdue losses are very troubling and unacceptable to say the least. There is no excuse possible for losing those 2 games in the fashion that they did. I place the majority of that blame on coaching staff and ultimately RR.
Those 2 games have completely changed the perception of this season and direction of the program under him. Win those 2 games and you are 7-5 with a chance to really make your season against OSU and a bowl game. Positive vibes for all alumni, fans, recruits, etc. Now you have this due to the meltdowns against Illinois and Purdue. Truly a disaster of a coaching job in my opinion.
In spite of this I would still give him 2 more years beyond this one if it was stictly on the field performance issues. Therein lies the problem.
UM is a business and is run as such...
Gaylan - please don't tell me that you are naive enough to think that big time college football is something other than a business? Seriously?
If not, please explain to me what it is if not a business?
captains
I completely disagree with this practice. Captains should be selected prior to the season and set an example day in and day out for all others to follow through out the season. It has been done this way by not only UM but by nearly every other pro or college team through out the entire history of sports. Why the need to do it this way has never made sense to me.
Lady Blue
Thank you for the detailed response. First let me say that I don't understand where you get that I am "jumping ship" or "my loyalty being swayed". I have put my money where my mouth is over the years and attended 100+ games and cheered my arse off for this program just as I will on Saturday.
I have purchased their merchandise by the truckload for myself, friends and family and have donated money to various functions the University has promoted or represented. I didn't even attend the school and have probably done more than many that have in terms of support. I want what is best for UM football, period.
I simply do not think that RR is going to survive what is happening in AA and if that is the case I do not want to go through this another year or two down the road. The damage will be even worse and the 2 best candidates we will see are available right now in Kelly and Harbaugh. Do you want to make this inevitable decision in a year or 2 when both of these coaches are already in their next and potentially final job? I don't.
I would love nothing more than to see RR thrive and win big and stick it in the face of his detractors within the program and the media especially. I just don't see this happening and I try to be a forward thinker when it comes to business decisions like this and make no mistake, UM football is a business and is run as such.
I have more to say to you about the specifics on the field and the off the field embarrassments but do not have the time. I will though when I get a moment later. I did however have to address the issue of loyalty or jumping ship as you put it immediately.
Lady Blue
Did you forget about me?
I'll take it...
They didn't look like the #2 team in the country last year at times either but they ended up playing for the championship. This is a gauranteed Final Four team short of a slew of major injuries. Izzo is too good and will have this team primed for a long run in March.
Lady Blue
What is so surprising? That I am sick of the circus atmosphere in AA? Are you happy with it? That I am sick of watching incompetence on the field as well? Are you not completely embarassed and frustrated by what you have watched the past 3 games?
I can deal with one or the other but not both. I can also see the writing on the wall and to ignore it will only do further damage. I would love for none of this to be the case but I am not going to bury my head in the sand and act like it isn't happening because it is.
Michigan should not be losing to the likes of Illinois and Purdue in such embarassing fashion and should not be the worst team in the Big 10. Nor should Michigan be embarassed in the newspapers every other week with some other problem or issue within the football program.
It has been this way since the minute he was hired and is not going to stop anytime soon. It does not matter who is at fault or what is fair or not or what is the truth or not. What does matter is that it is happening and I am of the opinion that it will not stop until he is gone. Fair or not.
As Anakin said, I am for whatever is best for the program and I just don't see how any of this is good for UM football.

Dead Man Walking
I would love to support the guy but the reality is that I don't count. No matter what I say or do my opinion is that he will eventually be gone. If that is the case I want to go after Harbuagh while opportunity presents itself.
If the people that count in the program and almuni base would get behind the guy then it would be a different story. I just don't see that happening right now. In fact I see the opposite.
It looks to me, as Anakin alluded to earlier, that the University is positioning itself to be able to cut ties with him sooner rather than later in relation to how they handle this investigation. I could be wrong but that is how it appears and if that is the case, why wait?
