The Lions are using gimicks now to get people in the seats. They feature pee wee teams and cheerleader groups at half time that bring in the parents, grandparents and friends to watch.

Even if they pay me money to see the game, I will refuse to go. Sports is just not socially redeemable enough to receive such a vigrous support as it does. Playing sports is healthy, but spectator sports is not.

I share Red Wing season tickets with two other guys. They a grade "A" prime seats, lower bowl, on the aisle. As my two sons have grown up and moved away, I have sold them more & more. Last year I started selling them in pairs and was able to sell the games I wanted to. This year I'm having trouble even doing that. I'm a hockey nut, and like the pro game, except that in too many games, they are only going through the motions and only show their true skills in spurts. The quality of play is particularly bad the first game after returning for a road trip (Bruins game Tuesday???) Also, the noise level in the Joe is too loud for me and ruins the atmosphere. Whoever thinks that volume equals quality of atmosphere is missing the boat.

Smoker, rarely do we agree on our comments, but I'm with you on yours. To add, not only are the ticket prices outrageous, the talent and the antics drive me a little nuts too. Two points worth mentioning: Love it when the Lions intercept a pass and the DB taunts the WR and flexs his muscles like a he-man.......and the Lions get crushed 44-0; or, when a Piston slam dunks the ball, runs back up court backwards, pounding his chest, and they lose by 15. Well, they don't get my money.

I was thinking about this lately and although I watch EVERY Tiger game, and I do go to several games a year. But I don't think I will go to any in 2010, unless they have some giveaways or buy one get one. The team is just not worth it. So I will spend 2010 watching from my fav spot(I'll let you guess where that is) haha.

Are you kidding? I will no longer spend any of my precious dollars to watch a bunch of millionaires cavort. No matter what the apologists say, the money being paid to the athletes has ruined professional sports. Ticket prices are sky high and we are made to feel disloyal by the media if we do not fill each venue. The ironic thing is that these media types that scold the fans, get into the game free by flashing their media credential.

The outrageous contracts being handed out has led to widespread cheating and I will not pay good money to be duped.

Unfortunately, tickets to sporting events are among the first things considered for elimination in tough economic times. Thank goodness for televised sports.
