Paying for public education

Since our Lotto was enacted the state has reduced its share of monies going into our schools. Every one dollar from the Lotteries' REDUCES the amount the state puts in by one dollar. Yet they still cannot pay a reasonal amount per student! Our kids suffer from mismanagment not from district administrators, but from lousy government.

You REALLY miss the point! People are simply tired of getting discount results for Cadillac costs. And the teachers are right in the middle of this debate requiring more money for their classrooms (pockets). Michigan teachers get more salary and benefits than their brothers and sisters in 45 states, but we rank in the bottom 10 in student performance in required learning. We may not get the top people for $25K, but at least we would get our money's worth.

Wow I didn't know that. In that case, lets reduce the school hours and reduce the number of suicide among our children. I didn't know that school was that dangerous to the mental health of our children.

THAT IS THE MOST bizzare COMMENT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

I would be more supportive of public education if our children could go to school more days a year. I was surprised to learn that in most schools our children go to school less than 180 days... I am sick and tired of this. You want more money from taxpayers for schools, stop cheating our children.

OH MY, IF YOU WANT A LONGER SCHOOL YEAR, BETTER TEACHERS AND CAKE YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!!!! GOOD LUCK ON GETTING PEOPLE TO WANT TO BE TEACHERS FOR 25K OR LESS THAT SOME OF YOU WANT. BESIDES, A LONGER SCHOOL YEAR MEANS YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE SCHOOL DAY DIFFERENT. IF YOU HAVE KIDS IN COLLEGE PREP SETTINGS FOR THAT LONG, GOOD LUCK. SEE WHAT THE SUICIDE RATE IS IN JAPAN AND S. KOREA. AND THEY TRY TO HAVE FUN STUFF DURING THE DAY TO EASE THE STUDENTS TENSION (WHICH SURPRISE, COSTS MONEY). SOME OF YOU JUST TALK OUT OF YOUR YOU KNOW WHAT BEFORE THINKING..... NO WONDER EDUCATION IS A MESS HERE. YOU WANT THAT TO BE GOOD AND CHEAP LIKE CHINESE GOODS....GOOD LUCK.......

No one has yet to come up with a GOOD reason why we have almost 600 school districts in Michigan. While the rest of us are living with 20-40% in loss of revenues, government employees call not getting a raise a "cut" !!!!

I would be more supportive of public education if our children could go to school more days a year. I was surprised to learn that in most schools our children go to school less than 180 days; all as a result of a school district in the UP that had a unique situation with busing and was allowed to go to a 4 day week - all of a sudden, every teachers union and school district in the state took advantage of a poorly drafted law allowing this and went to the same number of hours as that UP district with a 4 day week, thereby reducing the time teachers teach. When we had a law that set a minimum of 180 days of school, that became the maximum for the teachers unions. I am sick and tired of this. You want more money from taxpayers for schools, stop cheating our children.
