Michigan lures teachers to inner cities with $16.7M program
Good money tossed in after bad.
The kids and parents don't care about education. Ignorance and low achievement is celebrated not shunned. No teacher, however talented, however well paid, however well resourced can overcome that.
How do you change that attitude? Well you can't. That can only come from within.
What is sad is that terrible attitude is spilling over into the suburban schools as housing prices drop and people who couldn't flee Detroit before can do so now. Much like crime follows, so does poor educational achievement.

Liberalism hasn't worked before and it won't work now.
Clean up the crime then worry about education.
I would never allow my wife to work in Detroit again after being robbed and having her car stolen while leaving her teaching job.
Another desperate and misguided program
Michigan and it's entitlement culture continually return to the same ideas over and over. If we just bribe people to help us, maybe we can work our way out of this.
Detroit inner city schools (like other urban areas) are a disaster because of the STUDENTS. Their culture. Their absence of parenting. Their anti-intellectual mind set. And yes their grinding poverty.
As for those who would enter this program. What ever happened to the idea that you teach because you have a passion and desire. Not because you are being paid to enter the dregs of society's institutions and be a bright light in a hellish pathos.
It won't work. 5 years from now, the Detroit news will come back and do a piece saying a few kids shone, but test scores remain low. That assumes the Detroit News is still around.
Michigan: Stop spending money on under achievers. Focus on those in the middle and the top. They are the future.

Another example of government gone wild. These masters degrees are not free. They are paid for by taxpayers. Bloated beuracracy.
