Paying for public education
You REALLY miss the point! People are simply tired of getting discount results for Cadillac costs. And the teachers are right in the middle of this debate requiring more money for their classrooms (pockets). Michigan teachers get more salary and benefits than their brothers and sisters in 45 states, but we rank in the bottom 10 in student performance in required learning. We may not get the top people for $25K, but at least we would get our money's worth.

Wow I didn't know that. In that case, lets reduce the school hours and reduce the number of suicide among our children. I didn't know that school was that dangerous to the mental health of our children.

THAT IS THE MOST bizzare COMMENT I HAVE EVER SEEN.

Not such a good idea, CPAV. School lunch is sometimes the only decent meal a few of these kids get. Many other kids have no parent at home during the day to watch over them. Suddenly, the major bread winner has to remain at home half the day. Suddenly, the rent and heating bill does not get paid. There's a cost associated with your proposal. You, personally, might not see it. But it exists for many, nonetheless.
The days of the 'leave it to beaver' household are long gone.

I think cutting the school day in half is a better idea. Let the children learn on line at home the first half of the day and second half they go to school for additional instruction. This might include courses which are not really good for an on line format. The teachers would be paid the same or a bit more to set up on line courses, but the school could save a few bucks by not having the students in class all day. Schools would not have to provide lunch, students could eat before school.

I would be more supportive of public education if our children could go to school more days a year. I was surprised to learn that in most schools our children go to school less than 180 days... I am sick and tired of this. You want more money from taxpayers for schools, stop cheating our children.

OH MY, IF YOU WANT A LONGER SCHOOL YEAR, BETTER TEACHERS AND CAKE YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!!!! GOOD LUCK ON GETTING PEOPLE TO WANT TO BE TEACHERS FOR 25K OR LESS THAT SOME OF YOU WANT. BESIDES, A LONGER SCHOOL YEAR MEANS YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE SCHOOL DAY DIFFERENT. IF YOU HAVE KIDS IN COLLEGE PREP SETTINGS FOR THAT LONG, GOOD LUCK. SEE WHAT THE SUICIDE RATE IS IN JAPAN AND S. KOREA. AND THEY TRY TO HAVE FUN STUFF DURING THE DAY TO EASE THE STUDENTS TENSION (WHICH SURPRISE, COSTS MONEY). SOME OF YOU JUST TALK OUT OF YOUR YOU KNOW WHAT BEFORE THINKING..... NO WONDER EDUCATION IS A MESS HERE. YOU WANT THAT TO BE GOOD AND CHEAP LIKE CHINESE GOODS....GOOD LUCK.......
Paying for public education
No one has yet to come up with a GOOD reason why we have almost 600 school districts in Michigan. While the rest of us are living with 20-40% in loss of revenues, government employees call not getting a raise a "cut" !!!!

I would be more supportive of public education if our children could go to school more days a year. I was surprised to learn that in most schools our children go to school less than 180 days; all as a result of a school district in the UP that had a unique situation with busing and was allowed to go to a 4 day week - all of a sudden, every teachers union and school district in the state took advantage of a poorly drafted law allowing this and went to the same number of hours as that UP district with a 4 day week, thereby reducing the time teachers teach. When we had a law that set a minimum of 180 days of school, that became the maximum for the teachers unions. I am sick and tired of this. You want more money from taxpayers for schools, stop cheating our children.

FIRST cut EVERY government paycheck 40%, across the board, get them to a REALISTIC level.........
Most government employees and contractors could not earn more than $60,000 on the free market. Their only chance to make that kind of money comes from having an employer that not only never has to make a profit but can forcibly take money through taxation.
The answer is that both are deeply to blame. Don't be fooled. There's nary a difference between Democrats and Republicans when it comes to growth of government. Both parties are completely, sadistically, out of control. There is NO spending restraint on either side of the aisle, just hot air, promises, and purple unicorns. Oh and bubbles.
Meanwhile, members of Congress enjoy "cradle to grave" SOCIALIST medical and retirement benefits that outstrip those of the old Soviet Central Committee members.
1) Make all politician's pay a percentage of the AVERAGE pay of their constituents. That would give them INCENTIVE to get jobs back from China.
2) Make all politician's retirement plans a percentage of the AVERAGE retirement plan of their constituents, that provides INCENTIVE to work for the PEOPLE.
3) Make all politicians get on SOCIAL SECURITY, like the rest of us, and dissolve their fancy, overpaid plans. All State/Federal workers also. That will provide INCENTIVE to fix what THEY BROKE.
4) Make all politician's medical benefits a percentage of the AVERAGE benefits of their constituents, that provides INCENTIVE to work for the PEOPLE .
5) Make all politician's pensions dependent on the security of their constituent's pensions. If the People are losing their pensions due to economic distresses then the politicians should also.
THEN .......... If we valued Our CHILDREN more than FISH/DEER there is plenty of money! Why is no one questioning the dispersal of PUBLIC money in this State? Every year TENS of MILLIONS of dollars from The PUBLIC natural resources, the irreplaceable oil and gas revenues, are quietly turned over to "sportsmen". WHY? Money from Oil and Gas should be going to educate and research NEW energy resources. An "ELITE FEW" who already can afford to take a vacation fishing, should NOT be getting Taxpayer subsidies, that is SOCIALISM! There are millions of acres already dedicated to hunting and fishing, if these men think they need more, THEY should PAY for it, THAT is CAPITALISM. Where is their "rugged individualism? Why are the State's School Children subsidizing SOCIALISTIC recreation for those who turn right around and claim that hunting and fishing teaches "responsibility" Return that oil and gas money where it BELONGS, educating Scientists, and Grants to discover the ENERGY America and Michigan need.
