The Thing is Memphis is a small market franchise. They have no intention of winning (signing of AI), but the sigining of AI was strictly to improve tickets sells. Rudy Gay does not have the star power like Prince has earned.
Do not confuse Star Power which is basically popularity with better player.
Rudy Gay is by far the better player.
Memphis would love to have Prince for 2 years to build up its fan base along with AI.
They will not and have no intention pay Rudy Gay or any other young player of that caliber. So, it make sense for them to trade for a Star like Prince; it benefits them in the short term.
Same with Utah, they will not pay Carlos and he will not resign with them; so they need something in return "RIP" has a good 3 20pt scoring years left. They need a SG. They are in a spiral at the moment trust me things will get intersting in the coming weeks.
Most team will stay idle in the trade game this year due to the Lebron, DWADE, Bosh Sweepstakes....
We are in a postition to broker and steal these good deals.

Now, that's a nice line-up. One that could possible play until June.
But, how is it that WE acquire Rudy Gay and Boozer.
Trust me, I would like to make these acquisitions, too. But, the Boozer swap for Rip, if made, should had been made months ago. And, I don't think Memphis will just give US Gay for Tay and Maxey.
If these trade somehow were to happen, it would be to OUR benefit to make the trades, as soon as possible and during the same week.
The thing is WE as fans, Joe as President and GM, and Kuester as coach can really think that OUR guards can take US through this season without front court threats and consitency, the competition and schedule want allow it to happen.

It is quite obvious the Pistons need a BIG would can rebound, scrore in the post, and play solid D. And a SF would can score in a variety of fashion.
We have valuable Trade comodities:

WILCOX-3MIL
You are looking at 30MIL in a value in Trade commodity.
I would Attempt to Trade for Boozer and look him up in a 5 year 65MIL Deal at 13MIL per year
I would also attemp to look up Rudy Gay in Similar Fashion 5 Year 60MIL deal at 12 MIL per year.
That is only 25MIL with 5MIL left over.
With Kwame Brown 4.1MIL and Fabricio Oberto's 3.5MIL coming off the books. That is 12.6MIL we will have in surplus.
We need to take that money and extend HOT ROD contract,Extend Bynum's contract and Maybe re-sign Kwame Brown.
And that is how we will get back in the NBA Final Contention.
