mercantilist
As reported the stimulus plan has not created many jobs. In fact with the trend growth in the working age population the economy needs to add about 1.5% more jobs a year to keep the unemployment rate constant. A more objectionable fact is that the federal government has issued nearly an equal number of Visas for foreign workers to work in the U.S. as the jobs created by the stimulus program. All the while senator Levin is working with Senators, Schumer, Durbin and Reid to legalize and grant permanent residency to criminal immigrants. Massive deportations were conducted by the Hoover, Truman and Eisenhower administrations had the impact of retarding the flow of illegals- so it can be done. The welfare of the unemployed in the city of Detroit (a rate of nearly 30% ) in my mind are a greater concern than that of the criminal immigrants.
mercantilist
Stabenow and Levin both seem to favor fraud by illegal immigrants. Both voted against an amendment to require verification of immigration status for workers hired under the stimulus bill. Her defense might be that Reid made me do it- but she did it. Levin on the other hand never met an immigration amnesty bill that he did not like. The same issue is present in health care- it is the one that prompted Congressman Wilson to call Obama a liar. Will the final health care bill include real verification of immigration status for coverage? Or will Pelosi, Reid, Stabenow and Levin again provide a path to coverage by the million of illegals by fraud?
mercantilist
I assume that they simply replaced a vehicle at or near the end of a lease with another one. If that is the case it all a phony stink. If Bing is not stealing from the city and is taking no pay, he deserves some slack.
mercantilist
Those leaving the service face high unemployment. As an example the city of Detroit has an official unemployment rate near 30%. Many more are involuntarily working part time, receiving low wages or have given up search. All the while the cheap labor business (Chamber of Commerce) and farm groups and the globalist elites demand amnesty for the illegal immigrants displacing U.S. citizens and legal immigrants and pushing wages down (supply and demand). To benefit the returning soldiers and other struggling Americans demand enforcement of immigration law and reductions of Visa to foreign workers (more Visa have been issued this year then those employed by the massive stimulus legislation).
mercantilist
Desperate for news.
Opel
Opel and Saturn share some platforms. Why not market (and hopefully assemble) some Opels in the U.S. badges as Saturns?
mercantilist
The Vikings lived several hundred years in Greenland (initially led by Erick the Red)until climate cooling pushed the settlement to extinction. Change is constant. Sometimes it is good. Would we really want to live in a world overrun by dinosaurs or polar bears? There is little evidence that today's temperature is optimal ant that a little warmer might not be better. The fact that Albert Gore pronounces the question settled does not make it so. Nor for that matter a poll of scientists.
Michigan delegated debate health care
It looks like Pelosi and the house will confirm that Obama is a liar. Obama was called a liar by representative Wilson when he Obama asserted that illegals will not be covered by the legislation. The issue at the time was that the legislation provided little verification and illegals would qualify by simple fraud( a well developed skill possessed for many in the group). The Senate made some changes to address some of the concerns. The house refused to make substantial changes- the Hispanic caucus indicated that they would not support any legislation that blocked fraud.
So Pelosi and the Hispanic caucus have confirmed Obama is a liar.
ethanol
The farmers have been very good at politics. Among the farm welfare measures are is the artificial demand for ethanol. The primary fact is ethanol form corn provides very little net reduction in petroleum consumption. Strange that the arguments revolves around job creation. The Farm lobby is a big supporter of imported labor legal or illegal. It is part of a cheap labor coalition and wants immigrants who in good times will work for less than Americans. Another organization in the cheap labor coalition in the Chamber of Commerce that has gone into the courts to block state measures to support enforcement of immigration laws. Senator Levin is a cosponsor of amnesty for illegal immigrants that will work on the farms. Conceptually the amnesty is a bondage to the farms scheme. If passed, we know that it will be marked by widespread fraud. Until farmers pay decent wages to American workers tell them to quit asking for welfare.
same sex marriage
A commentator says its an economic issue. Nonsense the impact on gross state product would be so small as to be unmeasurable. Are gays going to cease to live or live together without a certificate provided by the government? Will same sex marriage lead to a big influx of homosexuals? It is doubtful and most of the population would not think that an attractive outcome. Given that the economics of this are insignificant the issue then must be decided on other grounds. For those that think that the state need not waste tax incentives on an arrangement that at best has little positive social value , the answer is no.
UM Innocence
The system will make mistakes. It seems that that the standard "beyond a reasonable doubt" often in practice provides wrongful convictions in excess of the 1 in 100 or 1 in 1000 standards that many believe is a proper operational standard for "beyond a reasonable doubt". At the end of the process, parole boards often insist that applicants for parole admit their crime and declare remorse. Those who adamantly declare their innocence (as is often the case with those with high moral standards that are wrongly convicted) are then frequently denied parole.
HIV biting
It does seem appropriate to bring criminal charges against anyone biting who has HIV. I would argue that it should be a crime for a know HIV positive person to have sex with any one not knowing the individual HIV status. Given that biting and sex with unknowing individuals do occur Obama's decision to lift the ban on travel of HIV positive individuals to the U.S. does endanger the U.S. population and exposes the country to the risk of having to pay for health care.
Melnick Letter : Educational Indictment
The letter takes a story about some pricing analysts at Ford and attempts to draw lessons on U.S. education. First of all one observation does not provide adequate support for a theory. A discussion with associates that work at Ford provides an alternative theory. Ford is known for it's Asian union. It is marked by Asian supervisors hiring nearly exclusively Asians. The theory that Ford allows explicit racism seems to be afforded strong support by the composition of the team of pricing analysts. This is one of many examples of discrimination against U.S. "natives".
war on drugs
The criminal immigration problem is much greater than the pot problem. Less educated American workers have suffered substantial declines in real incomes over the past four decades. The problem is currently extreme. One of the reasons is the decline in the U.S. manufacturing sectors with these activities being shifted to Asia and Mexico. The presence of nearly 20 million illegals, their dependents and the criminal immigrants given a pass by past amnesties do represent a huge increase in that part of the labor force. Special interest business groups have campaigned for cheap labor. The Chamber of Commerce even lobbies for business to not be required to verify immigration status when hiring. Let's spend a little more resources cleaning up the illegal problem
greene tial
Hopefully, all of the facts involving the police suppression of this investigation will come out. It is now evident that there was some substance to the rumors We can still hope that that the worst fears will not be supported by facts.
