Ex-Cobo Center director gets 14 months

The corruption in the city of Detroit runs so deep I wonder if we'll ever see the bottom. Cobo Center has been a corrupt paycheck for the powerful in the City for so long that it's small wonder that some on the city council fought to keep it paying them. Send this guy to jail for 5 years.

Developer wants family's gift back from Detroit

Yes, the park is neglected. But that doesn't change the fact that it is still a park.

And her's another thought. It seems to me that if I could receive 138 acres for free, I could make some big money developing it into a gated community......right Mr. Cheyne?? I mean, about making a lot of money.... your response Mr. Cheyne??

Kilpatrick loan was going to be $300,000

I agree with the majority of comments. KK belongs in jail along with his wife AND must still pay restitution. To those of you who disagree, let me remind you that Mr. K. Kilpatrick cost the poverty stricken city of Detroit EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS + COURT COSTS. That's a lot of Cheerios.

Term limits imperfect but needed

I'm with you Sandy (O'Brian). Let me also say that the argument our legislators are amateurs because they don't have enough time/experience is disingenuous. These are full time positions with a staff. 6 months is plenty of time to learn. If they don't learn, perhaps they shouldn't have been elected in the first place and should be voted out.

We are in this mess today because of the career politicians.

Gov's tax hike ploy is reckless

Well said Mr. Finley. Keep up the good work. This is a time of opportunity for real reform, not a time for additional taxes.

CyberSurvey: New way to fund parks

Like most of the posters, I am very suspicious of this proposal. Unless it's mandatory, I doubt it will be much of a fund raiser. Most will opt out of the payment. If it's made mandatory, then it's simply another tax on automobiles, and a deceptive one at that.

Why not simply raise the fees? It's unambiguous in it's tracking, clear in it's purpose, and probably would have the support of the park users.

Detroit union wants mayor jailed

Taxpayers are the real pay masters for all government employees. Elected officials are the taxpayers elected representatives. In essence, AFSCME Local 25 is filling a lawsuit against the taxpayers. Why do we even allow government Unions? I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: Government employees (federal, state, local) should not have the right to unionize. It's an insult to all taxpayers.

BAN GOVERNMENT UNIONS.

Cox to be deposed Dec. 11 in slain dancer suit

There's just something about this man that inspires mistrust. The idea of him running for Governor is just terrible.... unless he runs as a Democrat.

Detroit police break up carjacking ring

So, they went on an "armed robbery spree, carjacking at least 20 people in the span of just a few weeks. Well congratulations to the Detroit Police for getting them off the streets.

However, to say that they did this "just did this for fun" is absurd. Come on. How disingenuous can you get. They did this for PROFIT not for FUN.

This sounds more like Gang activity than just a bunch of guys goofing around (e.g, for fun).

Royal Oak Township weighs cuts after failed tax hike

It is too bad the article did not include information about the number of "officials" and Township workers. For a population of 2,700 (including children), a comparison with the size of the government would have been enlightening.

Islamic community voices outrage over mass killings

The record of muslim atrocities is simply too long and to horrendous to believe the pathetic denials any longer. I know I could fill a page with muslim mayhem in just the past 10 years. They are simply not to be trusted. The United States should modify the immigration laws to prevent further immigration from Muslim countries. Will it happen? Not likely.

Judge weighing re-trial for teen convicted in 'thrill kill'

".....Orlewicz deserves a new trial because psychiatric testimony about his past was excluded during the first trial."

Does it matter he had a rough past, that his mother was a nut job? Many people have a less than perfect past and yet they don't plan and carry out a brutal murder. Of COURSE he's a head case. The crime itself scream's he a pathological killer. That's exactly why he needs to stay locked away forever. A new trial will not change this.

State rep. pushes for same-sex marriage in Michigan

What is it that the supporters of gay marriage don't get. They push this agenda relentlessly. And yet when the people are asked (as they were in Michigan, California, and most recently Maine) the people overwhelmingly are opposed. I can only hope that the good people of Michigan will remember the efforts of State Senator Pam Byrnes, D-Lyndon Township and VOTE HER OUT OF OFFICE.

Judge orders Detroit to resume collecting union dues

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Unions should not be allowed for government workers. This includes city, county, state, and federal government workers. Government is not a private enterprise. It is not a "for profit" system and it is your tax dollars that are being spent.

Judge Amy Hathaway is a Democrat party hack with her eye fully on the support of the AFSCME in the next election and as payback for their support in the previous election.
