The merger was never about the Customer, it was about the investors and the holding company. The merger tramped the employees, reduced their pensions, and their wages, and how many consumers would be happier workers providing better customer service if their wages and benefits were cut? Give workers what Richard Anderson and John Engler received!

Northwest and it's partner lufthansa are by far the worst bunch of gougers in the industry. After enduring a miserable flight to Amsterdam I was ready to wait for a passing freighter so I could sign on as a seaman rather than fly home. However, that option wasn't available so I flew 8 more hours in the fetal position home, all the while swearing To never fly with that,or,any other airline again.

Let us pray for Amtrack and Greyhound to make a strong comeback.

Thought the question was about NWA so my experience is with NWA...Flying out of Flint (like in Michigan) check-in and seats all done on line. Carry-on luggage...no sweat. Peanuts and full can of whatever. Only issue that TICKS ME OFF is the NEED for the TSA and having to take my shoes off along with pocket change, belt, etc. all because of a bunch of radical (I believe they were Irish Catholic...or were the Baptist's or maybe Presbyterians) ANYWAY what a waste of taxpayer $$$$. Unfortunate that the good ole days of flying are long gone.

Sharon O posted: Try Southwest. You'll be pleasantly suprised by their luggage charges - $0.

Hi Sharon,

I believe Southwest is the only major airline who doesn't charge for bags. However, they have to make up lost revenue due to rising fuel costs and shrinking flights loads somehow or they won't survive. My bet is it won't be long before they start charging per bag. In any event, Delta/Northwest offers non-stop service, which to me is extremely enticing. For instance, I selected a random date of Nov. 7th and compared Southwest and Delta/Northwest out of DTW to LAS. Northwest charges $185.11 base fare for a total price after taxes of $209.59 for nonstop and $20.00 for one bag = $229.59. Southwest has a web only base price of $147.01 with a final price after taxes of $180.20 and no charge for a bag. With Southwest, if you check a bag you save $49.39. If you don't check a bag and carry on your savings are $ 29.59. However, by traveling Delta/Northwest you arrive 2 hours and 15 minutes earlier and you don't have to stop, get off the plane, search for a new gate in a crowded airport, wait to re-board, and then re-board. Nor do you take the chance of getting to another airport to discover your connecting flight has been delayed or canceled due to: crew issues, maintenance, and/or weather (especially risky because most Southwest transfers LAS are in Chicago).

Personally, for $29.39 extra I would carry on and fly non-stop with Delta/Northwest any day. Also, you avoid the amusement park/cattle herding type boarding process that Southwest employs. (a nightmare you would have to endure twice)

They were on time and packed to the bins but, they charged me $45 each way for the bags of myself and my two grandaughters. I will find a different carrier that doesnt charge extra for one suitcase, after all, the tickets are expensive. I would suggest that everyone just bring a carry on that will fit in the overhead bins and avoid the extra costs. Also, eat before you leave and not at the airport unless you dont mind paying top dollar for a snack.

Delta quietly raised fares on key routs by a factor in some cases of more than 4 (Detroit to Washington Reagan went from about $150 to nearly $800).

When you book through NWA.com the reservation shows up on the delta website, but because the flight is "operated by NW" you can't select seats or make changes. Becuase NW is now part of Delta, you cna't do that from the NW website either.

They refuse to admit they raised the fares, they argue with with, and then thank you for being loyal and tell you how they appreciate your business. Don't tell me you love me - show me. They aren't showing me anythng except disrespect for my 20 years as a loyal MW customer.

Oh well - there is US Air. The terminal is less crowded, the staff friendly, and the fares like the old NW fares ($160 round trip Detroit to Reagan.

Goodbye Delta - everything ends.

Delta is horrible. I was not informaed that my WorldPerks number was changed, and my mileage is not logged properly where I had to show the customer service my ticket receipts for the credit. The check-in procedures have not been improved at all. The worst thing is that Delta uses the Embraer planes which is like flying in a cigar tube because they are so small and uncomfortable.
