Walin, these people are responsible for their own actions. They were elected to represent the citizens, and they decided to betray our trust and take care of themselves at any cost. Now they are being held accountable for their poor decisions.

I'm sorry Susan but you miss the big picture. Granholm, and yes every governor before her, had the chance to diversify Michigans economy but did not. What did Granholm do? Enact the largest tax increase in the states history (close to 2 billion dollars) and is still talking about the need for aanother 600 million dollar tax increase. What else did Gov Jenny do? Increased teh size of goverment were now over 630,000 people work for the state of Michigan which means close to 15% of the population is employed by the state. The state is now our largest employer. Instead of cutting the size of government she cuts essential programs, instead of getting rid of her cook, maid and driver and the state fleet , she cuts education, instead of eliminating life time health care for elected officials which would save 5 million a year she eliminates dental coverage for medicade recipients. Cut taxes across the board, cut the business tax, cut property taxes and make this a right to work state and people will want to come here to live and work. Jenny has failed miserably at her job, she failed to stem teh fising tide of foreclosures in this state by exercising her constitutional authority to impose a moritorium on foreclosures that three prior governors exercised, that would have stablised housing prices. Jenny = BIG FAIL and this is why the Dems will lose big this year and not just in Michigan as they have owned the economy nationaly for the last three years and failed to do anything about it. I am sorry to say I voted for her and his holiness in DC, we can only hope it keeps snowing in DC so they cannot do any more damage than they have already.
Iranian militia attacks French, Italian, possibly Dutch embassies

In a well-coordinated offensive, pro-government Basijj militiamen in civilian dress hurled rocks and eggs at the Italian and French embassies in Tehran Tuesday, Feb. 9, shouting death to their respective leaders. Some reports say the Dutch embassy was also targeted. Iranian sources report the attacks appear to have kicked off the campaign for "stunning" the West - as threatened by spiritual ruler Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, or "crushing" the West - in president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's words this week.
Our sources expect the government-instigated violence to escalate up to and including Thursday, Feb. 1, the start of anniversary events marking Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution. They are designed to raise international tensions around Iran to fever pitch to deter opposition leaders from staging their planned mass protest demonstrations lest they be accused of treason and collaborating with the Islamic republic's foreign foes.
The Iranian regime has a long score to settle with French president Nicolas Sarkozy and his ministers. They are the most outspoken of any Western critics of Iran, often citing intelligence input to prove Iran is running a military nuclear program and building a nuclear bomb.
Sarkozy also warns that Israel will not stand by and let this happen without resorting to a military offensive that will generate a major war drawing Middle Eastern and other nations into the conflict
Tehran's grievance against The Hague stems from the suspicion that the Dutch BVD national security service maintains the farthest-flung network of agents inside Iran of any other agency and the high quality of its intelligence on happenings inside the Islamic republic:

Iranian Basijj plots UK embassy seizure
Iranian sources report that the Basijj militia chiefs have a plan to seize the British embassy in Tehran. Western intelligence agencies monitoring Iran have warned London that radical groups are secretly preparing to overrun the British embassy buildings and living quarters and take the diplomats hostage, replicating the siege of the US embassy in 1979, when extremist students held the staff hostage for 444 days. Those students were the early nucleus of the radical Revolutionary Guards Corps.

I think you didnt look close enough at cletes or rayburns numbers, both stunk in the clutch, they were terrible at moving runners from 2nd to third or on sac flys. Bottom line of why the Tigers didn't run away with the division- the little basics like I mentioned above. They lost alot of game because of it

I'm guessing one of his councils first demands was for Mr. Riddle to keep his mouth shut. He obviously can't. How does he blame that on his council. Mr. Riddle has always been able to win in the press. Things have changed. Even Mr. Mongo sees the feds are serious about cracking down on corruption and is fleeing Detroit.
Mr. Riddle has been playing the race card....but nobody is coming to his defense. No protests in the streets. Even Mr. Riddle's own people want to get rid of Mr. Riddle. It's about time!!!

tigers and damon/guillen
I think Tom Gage missed the point on if the Tigers sign Damon. The bottom line is they need a guy who can get lots of at bats and hits at the top of the lineup, someone who Guillen and Cabrara can drive in. Damon fits that better than Clete or Raburn. As a matter of fact both those guys were terrible at getting clutch hits. The tigers need a proven vet like Damon to help their woeful offense.

Almost exactly what I was thinking. An IQ of 70 is somehow supposed to come up with $61K (not 60K mind you, 61K, because fair is fair after all) . Let's see, on his minimum wage salary, it will only take him another four lifetimes to pay that off, if and only if he never goes to a movie. What a deal. What a justice system. How about we take the money allocated for 4 or 5 murderers to get their Master's degrees and give it to this guy for the $61K and maybe a little stipend for a social worker to check in on him from time to time.
