I don't think stats tell the whole story with Backus. It does not show the amount of hurries he allows. It does not show how we hardly ever run to the left side of the line, also a product of poor left guard play.

I judge him based on my eyes. He may have only give up 6.5 sacks this year, which is on pace for about 13, but does it take into account that we don't throw much down field? If we had or could have a vertical passing game I would bet that number would be much higher.

Jeff has slow feet and is humiliated by speed rushers, those give him the most trouble. Also, he is not overly strong, so he also gives up ground on bull rushers as well.

Replacing him would not make the line much better because, in my opinion, they are all substandard blockers, but LT is the most important position on the offense after QB, which makes the position worthy of a high draft pick (are you listening LYONFAN who did want Pro Bowl LT Joe Thomas for that reason).

Also, billy, I was looking at Walter Football and they are of the opinion that there are not very many quality nose tackles available this year. I would rather see that position fixed first than taking a defensive end who will get double teamed and negated. The defensive ends around a guy like Hanyesworth average about 11 sacks a year with him and about 1-2 without him. I generally don't like relying on stats too much, but that one is hard to ignore.

I like Walters prediction of Okung in the 1st and Ghee or Dowling (a cornerback) in the 2nd. No sense in taking a DT if a good one is not available at the pick.

Backus has been surrounded by different players should read "by different bodies" as the guard position has been totally ignored since the arrival of Millen. If this team wants to run the ball as they claim they do, they need guards. Guards, not centers, set the tone in the run game which in turn allows the passing game to work.

I agree that the line needs fixing, but, I say fix the greatest needs first. Makes on sense to replace the best players and ignore the areas of greatest need.

There is no cap in 2010.And unless there is a new labor agreement I don't see it happening.I do see a rookie cap like the NBA in 2012.Ukung is being compared to Thomas of the Browns at LT only better. The only knock on him is that he needs to add upper body strength. He just totally dominates at the college level.I would love to have Lions get Ukung or Suh with their top pick.In the unofficial stats,Bacchus has 6.5 sacks. So that is better than his previous three years, but it is above average for LTs.

If you want to see a good game, do what I do.

Watch the best matchup of the day.

Today it was the Bengals/Steelers.

If you chose to still watch the Lions, then my advice to you is, drink heavily.

The coaches have a game plan that the players aren't buying into because they aren't winning.

It's hard to game plan when you don't have the talent to make it work.

You don't have the talent because the guys running the show don't know how to draft.

The circle of strife.

sorry dude i couldn't do it. been here since 98, 99? and to stop because of a fool. i saw right after my caio it was like a door opened and the runs were on like bad pork. hes a fool whether you like him or not. if anyone saw what ole miss did to the tennessee defense yesterday and wants to draft any tenn d man is a millen wow boy. it alsomshowed that whether stafford turns out great or not, he was in yhe wrong year. like the last play he is so battered he lost th down vcount and no one even fixed his pads so another dump off got jerseyed of all things. that is the perfect picture, him waiting on the snap, eyes as wide as saucers, and he jersey ascew under his pads. and if achwartz does not send this game tape to the fords and marshall goell he is now chicken def too. there have bee so many shots to the head by the vikes, and many after the guy is already down or as good as. hits that are clearly cheap shots and on their d, on o blockers, wide recievers helping running backs and vice versa. and the refs do not call an even game. i don't care if your a franchise that has struggled for 5 decades or a winning team every year, calls must be equal or its no longer a game. which brings me to pettigew, if stafford was a year too early, pettigrew was very much a year too early and is only the third best tight end on the team, fourth is you count charlie. sorry guy, reading and boiling over especially after this game. they shut us down to go to the cardinal kick-off. good thing because i was waiting to board another medivac and hot lv in minnesota to pull out troops that have been pulverized to nano fraction of the rules and more. back and looking for good fights.

Not good, no place to go but up.

How long will it take?
