SHS vs. SE

Sorry sentence should have read:

to suggest that playing MAC teams in regards to SHS IMO doesn't make sense.

SHS vs. SE

Let me preface my comments by saying that I am a Dakota fan and hav no ties to either team.

Macomb, to suggest that playing MAC teams in regards to SE IMO doesn't make sense. Playing in the MAC Red prepares a team much more for the playoffs than playing in the PSL. That is a fact. While SE has played Glenn and Rice, neither of those teams are dominant.

thatsright, everyone knows how talented the SE defense is. But to suggest every player on the defense could play in a BCS conference is just not true. Go to the scouting sites(rivals, scout etc) and see for yourself. 2 have offers. The rest have none, let alone from BCS schools.

hs football lover, while I agree Gholston will be the best LB on the field. SHS has a very good one to in LB Charlie Walker (6'4 210) who has offers from 7 schools including Kansas.

With that being said, with Justice Wright out for the season, I like SE in this game, but not by 20 as some have suggested. I will say SE 14 SHS 13

IKE @ Dakota

IKE @ Dakota(-6.5)

We should see a well played, competitive game from these two MAC Red rivals.

Some interesting stats for this matchup. Dakota is 3-0 all time vs Ike in the playoffs, and 2-0 vs Ike in district title games.

I expect a close game that will be decided in the 4th qtr. Dakota will have to be much better offensively this time around, figure out a way to deal with Ike's speed in the front 7, and get them blocked. DHS also needs some big plays, it's too difficult to move the ball 10-12 plays down the field vs Ike consistently, their D will eventually make a stop or force a turnover.

The defense, while they did not play well the first time around, was not as bad as the score would indicate. They only gave up 17(Ike scored 7 on a fumble recovery/return). Alot of the mistakes were blown assignments(80 yd TD run comes to mind) that can and I believe will be corrected. Forcing Ike and QB Tony Zerafa into 3rd and long situations will be key.

Hughes was the leading rusher wih 36 yards, Morris had 34. AB decided to sell out to stop the run, after a few series G decided to take what the defense was giving him and went to the air and Morris had a huge game. The run game needs improvement but if teams are going to play Dakota the way AB did why would G and co waste their time and run the ball into 8 man fronts?

I do agree with you that Dakota vs. CV could go either way this week. I watched the CV/Utica game and I was impressed with #7 RB Cohn and #3 WR Miller. Miller's game reminds me of R. Hush. Hush always played his best in the big games and we'll have to see if Miller does the same. If Miller gets the ball in space then look out. The CV QB #2 Joe Smith looked good running the ball but was still inaccurate throwing it and if CV is one dimensional against Dakota and can't pass the ball Baur is going shut them down and really get after them on 3rd down.

I think Dakota has the advantage on the O and D lines. CV has a great kicker that will give them great field position all night and is a weapon on offense as soon as CV crosses mid field.

What may be the downfall of CV is that they are banged up in the secondary. Tyler Burgess is still recovering from a knee injury, he played against Utica but was still wearing a brace. CV's two preseason projected starting safties will probably both be out (Dolecki,Fix). I think Dakota will make some plays in the passing game.

It should be a great game and will probably be decided in the 4th qtr by a TD or less.

While I believe you are correct tha Baur is easily the best DC in the Red(hard to argue with 3 rings) I think Chris Smith from Ike does a good job as well. He was the DC behind those great Ike defenses that carried the Eagles to the D1 finals in 4 out of 5 years from 99-03.

I understand your frustration with Tom Winslow, aka the artist formerly known as Big Mike. He can be quite infuriating at times with his mis information, and this is coming from a Dakota fan/alumni, a school that TWBM "supports". I believe that your reaction to TW's comments has clouded your judgement a bit.

You said "Trash MAC teams".

I don't understand that comment considering the MAC Red in this decade has produced 7 trips to the D1/D2 state finals and 3 D1/D2 state champioships. While the numbers are not as good as what the CHSL Central has produced in the same time period it is far from what you described.

You said "Mac teams like stevenson play lazy defense and launch up fades and deep posts against terrible teams and coverages like playing cover 3 the entire game. or playing press man with no high hole safeties again with terrible press man technique, and if you have been to a game it is blatenly obvious and embarassing, thats how throw up gaudy numbers. They dont play good football."

While I don't think Rick Bye is a flawless HC I don't see how you can say that his teams don't play good football. He has been to 3 state title games which I believe is the same number as Coach Verska. I will agree that I don't think Bye is a great strategist and his teams have benefited more from his ability to recruit talent than anything else, but the guy has produced results for years.

You said : " Division 1 itself is very weak. period."

Again I disagree. I think from year to year it changes. For example in 06/08 I thought D2 was better, in 07 I thought D1 was better. Also you contradict yourself by saying how tough D2 is in comparison to D1. You do realize the team that won D2 in 07(MLK) was not well coached, they just had the athletes. Their offense consisted of an I form, and it was either run an iso/off tackle to the fast guy, if that doesn't work throw the fade to the 6'5 receiver. Needless to say I've seen better and that was the team that won the powerhouse D2 that year. BTW most people think Dakota, the D1 champ was better that season.

You said "More players are offered and recruited, along with better coaches make it a higher standard of football in michigan."

So far this season the MAC Red actually has more D1 commits than the CHSL. As far as HC's yes the CHSL boasts a legendary group with Fracassa,Mach and very good HC's like Poritt and Verska. The MAC also has a very good group with Giannone,Lantzy,Bye, & Merchant along with former CV HC Mike Carr, again not nearly the difference that you described.

You said "Teams like Rice and DLS will run the ball hit their home run plays, play good defense and will win, DLS epecially."

You're no better than Tom with that statement. You have no idea who would win those matchup's and you certainly do not sound like the neutral fan you described yourself as. I'm not sure if you realize but the last time the MAC red and CHSL Central hooked up the CHSL lost. Rice got bounced from the playoffs last year by a team that would most likely struggle in the MAC Red. Again trhe CHSL is very tough but not anywhere near as unbeatable as you want to portray them.

In closing I just want to state that I think the CHSL Central is a great league and they could very well bring home a couple of state championships this year but please do not let BM/TW bait you into poting the things about the MAC that you did, because your statements just don't wash based on the facts. BM does not speak for or represent any MAC Red school. So please don't judeg us based on him. In fact he was a DLS grad You seem like a very knowledgeable and football saavy poster though and I hope you come around and post more insight throughout the year.

Best Game

Best Games as far as participated was the 99 district & regional finals.

Dakota 34 CV 28 OT. First win for Dakota over CV, first district title, game was what ignited the rivalry to what it is today.

Clarkston 57 Dakota 56 4 ot's. Still tough to watch the tape of that game.

Best Game that I have seen. 07 Regional championship. Dakota 26 LO 14. Great game with many lead changes and wild swings of momentum. LO down 19-14 with under 4 minutes to play was knocking on the door inside the Dakota red zone. On 3rd down LO attempted a RB throwback to the QB, it was picked off in the end zone and sealed the game for the Cougars.

SHS is #1 and I can understand why. I think Dakota is going to be right there with them though and I expect a 4 qtr war in week 5 that could go either way and probably a rematch in the playoffs.

Dakota will not be as highly rated in the pre season as years past. They will be a little bit under the radar which is fine by me. They don't have alot of big name, flash guys but from what I have heard this may be as strong and quick of a group that G has ever had. They have had a great turnout for summer workout's with 125-150 kids a night.

Greg Gay has a good chance to start as a slor receiver for GVSU this fall.

I know 2 of Dakota's lineman are getting D1 looks.

DE Bryce Watts

2 others have a decent D1 shot but are more likely to go D2/D3

OG Greg Martin

Prepnation.com Top 5

1. Sterling Heights Stevenson

2. Inkster

3. Warren De La Salle

4. Lake Orion

5. Canton

Word is the local source that prepnation used for the rankings is Markowski.

DLS will have a very good O and D line, one of the best in the county but I would put Dakota right up there as well. They return 3 on the OL and both DE's from their 3 man front.
