Clarkston vs. Stevenson
foodie,
you should be ashamed of yourself! Fracassa did everything he could to win that game. He never "cheated" as you describe it. Also, after watching the fumble and spike a few times on replay, I will say the fumble should not have been called. The spike on the other hand was hiked, and pushed to the ground. I'm sure it would have been very difficult for the ref to make that judgement call on the field. I'm sure he saw the motion and interpreted it as a spike.
It doesnt matter though, there were two other huge defining moments in that game. The first is when Coach Richardson asked for more time after calling time out and 6 seconds came off. The announcers said it was 3 sec added, but it was two at the stadium. Either way, Stevenson scored in the final 1.9, which equates to the added seconds.
Also, why would you run the ball when there is 1:28 left on the clock and the opposing team has only 1 timeout remaining? Kneel 3 times and call it a game. Even if you have to punt, punt out of bounds with maybe 5 ticks left and 80+ yards to go.
Clarkston brought this result on itself.
The kids on both sides played one hell of a ballgame, and nobody should be taking that from them.

SHS Wins
Play of the game :
Coach Richardson call time out with 2:23 remaining just before the interception by Clarkston. The clock winds down to 2:16 before its stopped and Richardson goes nuts asking for time to be put back on. The ref's put 2 ticks back on the clock........after all the juicy parts of the game....theres 1.9 seconds to go when Fracassa and co. spike the ball at the 2 yd line that sets up the game winning score with .4 on the clock.
Coach, did you still want those 2 seconds back?
Great game by both sides.....ref's were GREAT....no-one can blame them for the result of this one....fantasy finish!
(and Wilt, if Clarkston was the better team, it would have won!)

Fitzfan,
you make a good argument about the MAC Blue. The same thing could be said about MHM in the Silver too. But I think it has a lot to do with enrollment and not history. I think it would be better for a team to play better competition within and outside its conference. Clintondale, in conference, usually has a decent team and it was down (maybe because of the coaching change?).
Looking at the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Blue, it appears MC is already playing with schools that have a min of 1000 students. if it moves up, it will be with mostly all D1 and D2 schools and its enrollment doesnt change.
hey tom!
Look, its not about getting a prediction right or wrong (and no Tom, I am not mad and I haven't been "torqued" at all). Its about the negativity and crap thats displayed toward the schools and kids involved. Not to mention some posters too.
I eat my crow with my predictions, so I cant be hypocritical about that.
Its a respect thing!
Semifinal Saturday
Putting all of the garbage aside, football is getting down to the nitty gritty.
Went 6-2 last week in the Regionals. A few surprises with Rockford losing and Canton giving CC a dogfight into OT. Overall, 46-10 in the playoffs.
DIVISION 1
Holt vs. Detroit Catholic Central: CC's defense, one of the best in the state, was tested last week and Canton offense was able to move the ball pretty well. I dont know much about Holts offense, but it better be in sync and limit its errors. CC has a very good offense to go with the d, its the kind of mix that takes teams far. Holt beat a scrappy Rockford team that had a very good defense itself. I give CC the advantage of the balance and strength. CC 28-14
Clarkston vs. Sterling Heights Stevenson: The Titans were tested last week with a defense that was extremely fast and agile. Fracassa showed once again he can step up to the plate and get it done. Wrights replacement (name is past me, #6) played well when he got the ball in open field. He has some very good 1v1 moves though is too small to break tackles. Just a sophomore, this kid will have time to improve. Haven't seen Clarkston play this year. Tried 3 times and didn't make it. However, it does have a playmaker at RB who can open a can. Clarkston hasnt seen a passing attack nearly as good as Stevensons, and thats where I give the edge. Fracassa to have another field day. SHS in this one, 38-21
DIVISION 2
Lowell vs. Birmingham Brother Rice: Personally, I am surprised to see Rice this far. It is proving how strong the Catholic Central really is. Rice had a few problems against a crippled RA team a few weeks ago, but managed to get this far. I like Lowell though, in a close one, 24-21
Warren DeLaSalle vs. Inkster: DLS has made some believers out of many. Inkster has been tested all year and some say the schedule had helped it get this far. The entering 5-3 record was deceiving, in addition to playing two top Ohio teams. Gardner is living up to the hype right now and Inkster will have its biggest test of the playoffs this far. DLS has improved on offense and defense in these playoffs too. It keeps getting better on both sides and will need to be on top of its game to get past Inkster. This will start off tough, but I think Inkster will pull away late, 35-17.
The remaing divisions to note on, CCFP in D8 pulled off the "upset" in the District finals and is one win away from FF again....MC in D4 has Williamston, I dont think this will be close....OLSM vs DeWitt in D3 should be a good one, the winner will face the Goliath EGR next week....Clare in D5 has had a magical season, if it wins this week it will likely face JLC for the championship, I think JLC is on cruise control now after the MHM win.....D7 will likely feature a TCSF vs Ubly rematch.....Montague D6 is trying to repeat as champ and it looks like it will again, I think Monroe CC will meet it there for the challenge.
Good luck to all the kids this week.

Are you threatening me? You play the internet toughguy role pretty well.
Also, I never said anything bad about your friends because they are my friends and acquaintances too. We like to share reasonable insight on the game. Yours would be appreciated too, but when you come back with comments like "DLS drivel," I dont care to listen.
I know you wont hear what I am saying, but atleast I tried.
The Scene, ahem.......
Tom, lets get a few things straight.
First, Justice Wright is out for the season with a torn ACL.
Second, the Titans running game was non-existent because SE's defense was one of the best in the state. Maybe you didn't notice all the linebackers blitzing and crushing the line. After the halftime adjustments, Fracassa was able to get some time to set and throw in addition he was running one step drops and hitting his receivers short. This also made the SE defense back off and allowed Fracassa to run draws up the gut later in the game. Keeping the defense honest is what happened, and Clarkston is going to have to do something similar on D in order to win.
Third, are you really the one who should be calling out Fife after the halftime debacle? Maybe Dakota should take some responsibility for not being better prepared. Either way, its not your place!
Fourth, since when do you travel south of 696, in addition to seeing DLS play Inkster?
Fifth, Southfield matched up well with DLS. I don't know about a "creampuff" because Southfield made some key mistakes on offense and gave up only a couple big plays on defense. In fact, one surprising stat was SF didn't have a first down in the first half. Another, the big back only ran the ball about 3 times and fumbled on the third. Makes me wonder if there was a injury or bug looming that could have slowed him down.
Lastly, if youre gonna report something, atleast try to make it accurate. I dont understand how you can dish out all these shenanagans and carry on the way you do. I have gone all season with a vow this year about not disgracing the kids, other posters, or coaches and you seem to do it on a regular basis. These teams have kids on them that pour their heart out and deserve better than some "old bitter man" spitting out defamatory remarks and giving negative connotations about them and the team.
That completes my rant. Maybe one day you'll come to (since I know ALL your friends feel the same way) and grow up. In fact, you should be honored to have friends like them who give you that advice.

Ink 35, Anderson 7
Lowell 35, Port Cent 14

Anyone know why Dakota had two players kicked out? Two personal fouls cost those kids playing time.
Also, special recognition to Southeastern for a great game played and a class act on the field. Congratulations to those kids for making a great show tonight.
Jackson Lumen Christi
I wouldnt take anything M-Live has to truth....we found that two scores posted there were very inaccurate.
A Quickie
DVI, I wasnt ignoring the Catholic Central. Just calling them as I see them. See you tomorrow at Southfield.
Playoff Football Picks Regional Finals
Fared pretty good last week again going 14-2 in the districts. Losses included AAP against Canton which leaves me to question, how good is Canton? That score came out of no-where. Southfield beats up on Harrison. I say that because the score doesnt show it. Southfield has a beast at rb, 6'2" 230lb guy that really has good speed, breaks tackles and carries tacklers too. It also has a speedy wingback who can absolutly fly. If he gets some open field, this kid is off to the races.
My overall record for the playoffs so far, 40-8. Now the picks:
R1:Holt (10-1)at Rockford (11-0), Rockford on the championship road again, Holt will play tough, but come up short. Rockford.
R2:Canton (10-1)at Detroit Catholic Central (11-0), Canton blows away AAP last week. It will face a much better defense and will have trouble scoring this week. DCC.
R3:Macomb Dakota (9-2)at Clarkston (11-0), Dakota always finds a way. Until that one team beats them. Clarkston in a close one.
R4:Detroit Southeastern (10-1)at Sterling Heights Stevenson (11-0), Both teams can move the ball. SHS lost its balance with the running game though. Both defenses are good, I would give the edge to the Titans up front. Last year SHS fell to Lake Orion in Regional Final by a last second fg (in a fantastic comeback that fell just short), this year its SHS's turn to walk off. SHS 31-28
R1:Portage Central (10-1)at Lowell (10-1), Last year Lowell left some unfinished business. It isn't stopping for anyone. With a seasoned team, Portage Central will have its hands full. Lowell.
R2:Birmingham Brother Rice (7-4)at Midland (10-1), Rice picked on a beat up Adams team last week. It didn't look great, but did enough to move to the Reg. Final. Thats far enough. Midland.
R3:Warren DeLaSalle (7-4)at Southfield (8-3), DLS has had its defense step up and now the offense is moving the ball. Southfield has a powerful defensive front and the LB's are very good too. High powered run game will put DLS to the test. This is a rematch from last year and Southfield is looking for revenge. This will be a low scoring afair and every possession will count. DLS 10-7
R4:Inkster (7-3)at Southgate Anderson (8-3), Inkster is looking better every week. In addition, it is convincing me it can't be stopped. Inkster.
We'll see how it plays out. Best of luck to all the kids.
The scene, ahem
Tom, you're forgetting one other big game this weekend, Jackson Lumen Christi at Madison Heights Madison. I think the winner of this one goes to FF also. AND, MHM could win the championship, which could make for 3 MAC teams. I am not keeping my hopes up though. Still a tough road ahead.
RICE vs ADAMS
Last nights game was fun to watch but tough to give Rice a good rating. Frankie Popp (qb) and Pickens (rb) for Rice looked good, but Adams had 3 starting defensive players done for the year due to injury. 24-7 final and it could have been a much different game with those players. But, thats why its played on the field. Interesting matchup next week with Midland.
SHS vs SE
First, SE has to win today (not that I don't doubt it).
Second, SHS lost its balance when Justice Wright went down. The reason SHS has been blowing teams away is because it could run and throw. Wright will likely be out the rest of the season due to a partially torn ligament. SHS needs someone to step up if it is going to compete for the Championship.
