I feel your pain poncho but what exactly is a domestic car? Based on content, no such animal exists. GM, Ford, and all the rest are overseas, raking it in when they can. Wake up.

That's a problem caused by Mike Savoie Chevrolet, NOT General Motors!

General Motors Chevrolet Division has a phone number for their main service department and a call to them would have corrected the dual problem for the headlight fix. If the car was still under warrenty, the headlight would have been fixed at NO cost to you, the customer. This is a problem that most owners don't know and follow through on. Getting screwed by a dealer is not what the corporation likes and reporting it would have corrected the problem and the dealer warned to comply.

This is for earthworm - and to all the clown-jerks that buy foreign cars and then write smug stupid comments trying to justify how smart they are just because their car was assembled off shore - most of you are phonies trying to impress someone and just because you think an import is better doesn't make it so. No, most of you guys are unAmerican shallow minded selfish jerks that don't have enough common sense to buy American made cars because they are great cars and buying American cars keeps Americans working. Duh.

Only once, as I recall, have I ever been to a GM dealer for anything.

It was 1957, I needed a shift fork for the '40 Chevrolet.

Seventy cents and seventy minutes later the fork was in place and she was on the Chatham, New York roads.

Now I read that 40 - 50 years later, the GM customer is treated like dirt.

Exactly what went wrong ?

Greed run amuck ?

Poor education ?

Is simply getting along with others not taught ?

What makes me sad is the lack of intellect from so many here, including GM management.

From them ,I'd expect more.

To the "Jap hater"...this is so easy, I might be the same way when young, but the education never stops.

We must face the truth , the Japanese simply "do it better". If not, I would not own a Honda.

When and if GM decides to "do it better", I'll then buy from them..

Our government should have played a far larger, and far more positive role in this mess..

Maybe they tried and GM and the unions never listened..

Mother bought a Chevrolet Impala from Mike Savoie Chevrolet years ago. Subsequently, one of the headlights went out, so we took it to Mike Savoie Chevrolet's service department. The service department wouldn't even write up the service report unless we agreed to pay a $60 service charge. The headlight needed repairing so the $60 was paid.

Hours later, the car was repaired. The service drivethru a Savoie Chevrolet was busy so we drove away promptly. Once outside the service drive, we stopped to see if the headlight was repaired. It wasn't the headlight still did not work.

So we drive back around and re-enter the service drivethru at Mike Savoie Chevrolet. The service manager again said service wouldn't touch the car unless we agreed to pay another $60 up front.

That's my memory of GM-Chevrolet, haven't owned another GM vehicle since, and never will - for cause.

Wow thinking back I reember our 1960 La Sabre with me in a picture sitting on the rear fin. And then my parents had a '64 Olds Dynamic 88 baby blue, this car had an aftermarket a/c unit that mounted under the dash and sat on the trans hump, it was loud but we were cool in the summer. My first car was the hand me down car from my mom it was a '71 Electra a total land yacht but ever so cool I rebuild and drove that car until 1985 they sure don't make them like that anymore. Looking back at GM you can tell that they were really king of the hill at one time. I hope they can pull through this.

I had a 68 roadrunner in the 70's loved that car! But worker for GM for 31 years. Owned 10 GM car's and truck's since. Had a trans problem once in early 90's (IROC) car was out of warrenty (39000) miles or there about. GM covered the cost 100% and had car back in two day's! I'm driving a 2004 pontiac 160000 plus and not one problem. Also I have a 2002 GMC truck 120000 no problems. The American people have been brainwashed by propaganda from the neo-con right wing anti middle class wackos for the last 30 years. I gave my best to GM for 31 years and GM gave me a good living and world class cars & trucks.

Long live GM!!! an American company!!!

GM has a flawed business model. Give the masses a reliable, troublefree vehicle and honor the warranty, how simple is that? They were destined to fail eventually becaused most of us are tired of being let down. I owned a 1997 olds 88 with the plastic intake, that required an engine replacement after stranding me in the "wilderness". As long as GM has been making cars some knowledge should have been gleened on how to make them better and less expensive, not with cheaper plastic parts. I own a 1997 chevy silverado with 59,000 miles. These trucks were GM's bread and butter, yet they were made with inferior intake gaskets, waterpumps, engines that knock, all issues I'm having. Any good memories of GM will be outweighed by the bad ones. I hate to see them go, maybe they need the japanese to show them how to build a better car.

GM Memories

I was born in 1955 and grew up in the 60's in mostly a GM family, with a few Fords interspersed. My family owned among some of the GM cars: 54 Chevrolet Townsman wagon, 55 Chevrolet 210, 59 Chevrolet Biscayne, 60 Pontiac Bonneville, 63 Chevrolet Impala, 66 Chevrolet Impala, 69 Chevrolet Impala, 70 Chevrolet Malibu, 72 Chevrolet Caprice, 73 Buick LeSabre, 78 Oldsmobile 98 plus several Chevrolet pickups (54, 60, 68, 70) and 63 and 78 GMC pickups. Wouldn't I love to have some of them now! About the time I started driving in 1971, my dad owned a 71 Ford LTD which became my car to carry me through college, then my first new car was a 1978 Ford Thunderbird, but I soon went back to GM. My dream was to be a GM car designer, but never pursued it. Since an adult, I have had: 80 Buick Regal, 84 Oldsmobile 88 LS Brougham, 85 Pontiac 6000, 91 GMC Sonoma, 91 Buick Park Avenue, 94 GMC Sonoma, 98 Chevrolet Silverado, 99 Buick Park Avenue, 00 Pontiac Montana, 02 Chevrolet Silverado and 03 Buick Rendezvous. Have gone the "foreign route" with my last car, 05 Nissan Altima, and much prefer GM makes. I'm ready to go out and buy a new 09 Buick Lucerne, but a little concerned about my job situation. Long live GM, hope I can do my part to help out soon and we can get this economy back in order.

I learned to drive in a Monte Carlo and the first car I ever was allowed to drive alone was a Chevy Lumina. Later, I had a dark green Grand Am & then a silver one. The Grand Am was always my favorite car. I grew up near Flint and my great-grandfathers worked for Ford and later one for GM. One of them came as an immigrant to this country and was very proud to work for Ford.

GM Memories

I owned only one new GM product, a 1978 Pontiac Grand AM.

Unfortunately, it was a Grand lemon. I knew I was in for trouble when I didn't even make it home from the dealership. An electrical problem caused the engine to shut down and I had to walk to a phone to call the dealer to have it towed back.

The dealer insisted the problem was fixed but it wasn't. I drove my boss and clients to a business luncheon only to find that the car wouldn't start. After the second experience I was ready to get rid of it.

It was my first lease and I turned the car in 6 months early. I was shocked when the dealer wouldn't return my security deposit. They claimed the transmission and engine were extensively damaged and were going to make me pay several thousands of dollars to have it fixed.

I never again considered a GM product.

Even so, I know they have improved and deserve a chance to survive.

My first car was in '86. It was a 77 Pontiac Starfire (Chevy Monza for you youngsters). I loved that car because I bought it for $1 and it was the biggest POS! It's great to have a beater for your first car. You don't have to worry so much about it. Body rusting through, eating oil, only AM on the radio (and no tape player!)

Finally one day I was driving down 11 mile and saw these parts bouncing down the street after me. The whole drivetrain basically disintegrated and fell off. I made it all the way home coasting to a stop in front of my house.

The only GM I've had since was a Geo Prism, but that is really a Toyota. It was amazing until I sold it with 177K on it.

And by contrast, the Pontiac had 98K on it when it disintegrated. Not a good era for GM! But I still have great memories of my first car.
