A. Fundamentalist Sinner, 5:54 PM
You reveal the excellence of the Good News in a wonderful way. The message of Jesus has many facets and reflects the Love of God in varied descriptions.
Scripture reveals that God IS love. God was in the Messiah, Jesus, reconciling the people of the world to himself. Jesus promised that he would send the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) which was in him, to all believers after he ascended.
Jesus did and does that. The very Holy Spirit of God who participated in creation and empowered the ministry of Jesus here on earth is promised to every believer. The Spirit is referred to as the COMFORTER who will lead us in all that we allow him to lead us in.
I choose to think on this part of me which is being comforted through The Holy Spirit. Experience has demonstrated to me that as I choose to remain in Him, the Love of God fills me with the ability to be loving. There is very little, if any, benefit to me in CONFESSING that I am wretched and full of sin once I have received Jesus.
If today I was in fact a wretched, nasty, selfish person and I recognize this fact, the only positive action I can take is to realize that I would be far happier if I was back in fellowship with the COMFORTER and confess the stupid things I did. God has promised to cleanse me of my sincerely confessed mistakes and is available to me for the strength and ability to avoid being wretched tomorrow.
As you said so well, Christ is the source of our Goodness.
I am not wretched and bad if Jesus is comforting me with his Spirit.
(Sharon, if you are reading this you have probably lost your supper. I am sorry about that. It is true, however, that I am not wretched all of the time )
FYI. I will be away from the computer tonight and unable to respond further until tomorrow.

"IMO, the Good News message which Jesus is teaching is that each of us individually is exceptionally relevent to our creator God and his creation. We are significant. We are important to God in the "Big Picture" of things as well as the small picture. Every person who is created is loved by God the Father as much as Jesus is loved by God the Father. Jesus tells us that in the Gospel of John."
Dillon, no doubt I agree (although I would say Jesus' Good News message is a bit deeper than just that, but that's a separate topic).
In my opinion, knowing that God created and loves each of us individually, equally and unconditionally gives us our self worth and that eliminates the need for self love... we have infinite worth in the eyes of God. It also eliminates any justification for ego and pride, because each of us having the same infinite worth means none is worth more than the other... each of us has the same equal and infinite worth in the eyes of God.

Please excuse me, as it is late for me and I must be up early. I will check back with you in the morning.
8-Mile and AFS, you each are a blessing for and to me. Thank You.

Dillon, I submit that when loving God and others first, and realizing God's great love for us, one will be fulfilled to the point that loving self will seem irrelevant.

"No, it's just that we seem to love ourselves somewhat unconditionally."
I actually do not see that readily apparent in people. I see selfishness in people. Are you considering selfishness as 'loving ourselves'? How are you defining 'loving ourselves'?

Mav-"I see so and correct me if I misinterpet loving myself you equate with lying and skating on folks, is that it? Loving yourself is putting self over truth?"
No, it's just that we seem to love ourselves somewhat unconditionally.
