MacBadger-on learning how to write
Wheeler,
Wheeler,
I think manufactured posts are just that manufactured. Thus I use a stream of conscious thought. Some like Mirabelle need to spend inordinate amounts of time first summoning thoughts together. I don't they are there when I need them. Some may be heavily sedated, which would lead to the need to edit continuously I am not.
Hence Mirabelle may be working with distractions and impediments I do not have. We can all applaud the work that she churns, out since it appears to be such a labor for someone meeting such challenges. I am only surmising here though and that should be understood.
MacBadger-on learning how to write
Since you asked so nicely...
I write for a living. Grantwriting mostly, but I've also written newsletters, stories and poems (who hasn't has a poetry phase!). I honed my writing skills as a philosophy major...with a professor who would not just give me an 'A' because I was coherent.
Like most things, you get better the more you practice. I learned a long time ago that if you just write as you speak, it works out rather well. Read a lot of good books with quality writing, so you can see how it should be done. And don't be afraid to try new things.
You are quite wrong in assuming my writing on that post took only 10 minutes. It's usually the work of an hour: getting the first draft done, going over it with an editing eye, and rereading it to make sure it's what I want to say on the subject at hand. I will say there ARE times when my dander gets up and I fire off a volley, only to end up with a rant and not a thoughtful piece. In my opinion, Elroy is a far better writer than I am...and always will be.
I am honored that you enjoyed how I said what I said, even if you don't agree with me.
