Ford investing $2.3 B in Brazil!!!

The question is "Why there and not here"": The answer is simple: "The UAW vote of 2-3 weeks ago made this decision an easy one for Ford management"; They will invest where they can be most profitable (other than the promises made to the Louisville Plant only because that is Gettlefinger's home base!!!) The UAW workforce will continue to shrink over time while the auto manufacturers will expand in other countries where their costs are much lower!! I will never understand why the UAW does not grasp this most basic fact!!!!!! I guess all they care about is their CURRENT membership-they certainly do not worry about future generations!!

Gary Peter's comments about McCain

He is just "pandering" !! I'll wager Mr. Peters never has spent one day in his entire life in a UAW industrial plant and seen the gross layers of added costs that the UAW contracts have 'bestowed" on these operations!! These plants--while well intended--will never be able to compete with the competition until the UAW contracts --that have built up layer and layer and layer of additional costs over the years -is thrown out the window and everyone starts over with a clean sheet of paper!! Sorry Gary but those are the 'facts of life"!!!

Mc Cain's comments

Why is everyone so upset with Senator McCain's comments?? Anyone with 'half a brain' understands that the high costs associated with UAW labor cannot sustain or insure a company's existence!!! Not when that industry is global!!! Question: Is the % of the workforce that will be paid $14 /hr. capped at 20% of the total workforce in any given plant??? If this is true--then the long range costs will never be reduced sufficiently to meet the global competitive equation!!!!!!!

Fird K.C. strike vote over "workloads"

I am now 100% convinced the average UAW worker is 100% unaware of what is happening in the global auto industry!! A strike vote??? Have they totally lost their minds??????

JBobs 999

Your comments reflect a complete lack of understanding about what is going on in the GLOBAL automotive industry!! Effective auto ceo's are , indeed, very very difficult to find (just ask Gm and Chrysler!!); The Ford Ceo must be doing a decent job guiding the company in the right direction balancing demand vs. capacity and instilling effective quality standards in these trying times and should be rewarded accordingly; For the average UAW worker to bemoan the fact they had to give up a 3% and then a 4% lump sum pay increase is plain insane!! IT IS THE SIGN OF THE TIMES!!! Your industry has to get costs more in line with the rest of the GLOBAL auto industry; it is relatively painless for you give up lump sum payments when your base pay has been left unchanged (not many laborers in other industries --if any-- can say the same!!!)

% of workforce that makes $14/hour??

Can someone with the proper knowledge of the 2009 contract terms answer the following question: Is the % of the workforce being paid $14/hour in any one UAW plant CAPPED at 20% of the total workforce or can this number be as high as ???; I am under the impression this number is capped at 20%!! If so--this will not lower the costs of operations that greatly!!

future Size of Ford UAW workforce in USA

I would be willing to wager that the size of the Ford UAW workforce in this country in 2012 will be LESS than it is as of 01/01/2010; The union mindset will NEVER understand that it is a company (based upon capital investment) who create jobs--NOT their union!! Ford will move jobs offshore (To Mexico, etc.) to minimize costs!!! This latest vote fiasco truly indicates the average UAW worker does not have the IQ to see the "Big PIcture"--companies have to be profitable to stay in business!!!

Ford deal with the UAW goes down to defeat!!!!!

My o my!!! The Ford UAW members must think their union is the creator of their jobs!!! How stupid they are!! The Ford Motor Company is the creator of their jobs!!! Now that they have rejected the contract changes (which I am to beleive included the creation of more productive work rules in the plants by reducing some of the skilled trades classification- which, in essence, does not eliminate one single job but rather allows ALL workers to be more productive!!!), this negative vote forces Ford's hand to rethink where it will allocate future product plans; The end result ( I will wager on it) will be for less jobs in this country and more work to offshore production!! How stupid can these people be???

Ford vote

Latest news article indicates contract may be trouble (12000 votes against; 7000 votes in favor); I still say Solidarity will 'find a way' to say this new contract passes; If it doesn't--Ford should take a tough stance and move work into those plants that voted in favor and shut down--where feasible-- those factories that voted against!!!

Wed. 10/28/09 09:40 PM

FORD VOTE

Somehow--someway--Solidarity will find a way to say the vote on the contract changes was APPROVED: I've seen this song and dance before and it Always ENDS UP IN FAVOR OF WHAT SOLDIARITY HOUSE WANTS TO HAVE HAPPEN!! In this case (because a no vote wpould be disasterous for the future of good paying jobs in this area) it is hoped Solidarity finds that "magic" again!!

Cicero's comments: How refreshing!!

Finally a UAW worker who sees the "big picture": How refreshing it is to finally hear from a worker who has the intelligence to understand what these contract changes means to his future; Now Cicero: Why don't you convince many of your fellow workers that a "no' vote means less jobs and less job security for all at Ford!!!

dtp1's comments

The man is "delusional" and totally crazy!!! Today's auto industry needs all of the help it can get to survive and the KC folks say 'no"; "we want our entitlements": All they deserve is to have the plant close and lose their jobs!! Then we'll see how they act/react!!! Crazy!!!

Sun. 10/25/09 10:55 PM

would the UAW authorize a strike???

I think not!! A strike would be the "height of insanity" given the condition of the auto industry in this country!! But --then again -- I've questioned what has driven the mindset of the UAW workforce many times in the past!! Each worker just has to realize their union does not CREATE ONE SINGLE JOB!! Their EMPOLYER creates these precious jobs and they should do everything humanly possible to insure the future existence of their EMPLOYERS!!

Sat. 10/24/09 09:32 AM

UAW mindset??

After reading many of the comments on this forum this am--I remain totally perplexed on what drives the typical uaw members mindset??? Questions to all of these uaw members: (1)Does your union create one-single job?? (2) Who puts up the capital to create a company thus creating a job?? (3) what drives your mindset to continue to believe you are 'entitled" to your job ??? Answer to all three questions: The UAW doesn't!!! IF I were in your position (knowing that your industry has shed 100"s of thousands of jobs over the past 5-6 years), I would quickly come to the conclusion that I would do everything humanly possible to insure my employer (who created these jobs in the ist place!!) has the most advantageous conditions possible to allow him to compete in the world market!!! To think/do otherwise is total insanity!!

Ford vote on New contract

Anyone heard what's happening on this front??? If the Ford hourly does not vote affirmative--put a BIG nail in their coffin!! Offshore movement will be the norm--not the exception!! It appears that Gm's future is in Asia and I would not be surprised if -in the next 5-10 years-they are headquartered in that country and have a few SMALL NON-UNION plants in this country to produce the 5% market share they will "enjoy"!!!! Ford would eventually follow suit; Chrysler is "history"!!!!!!
