Volt....
A lot of you guys are too negative..Of course this is a "niche" car, but they NEED a standout product. Everyone is busting their b___s on this project, and these guys/gals are also our fellow americans, so, Best Wishes !
No, I am not in a union, BTW. This car/story are interesting, so keep reporting on it, detnews...
I drive a MB diesel, a CNG F250, and 3 other Fords,
Hopefully for all of our sake this volt project goes well.
Combined with nuke power source, it's all good!
Unskilled Auto Workers have no future
"And it is a prime indicator as to the future for Auto workers with no useful skills off the shop floor.
I look forward to continuing elimination of auto worker jobs as their presence in the economy distorts compensation and is illusory with so much public support.
May their demise be slow and painful."
.
Wow, too bad this is not usenet, with it's feature of Killfilter...well, this clown can go on paying salaries
for his government workers who sit around and discuss banning black cars...some education, eh?
GM to retain Opel
Great news, someone declares that yes, there IS talent at GM. The hardest-working guy I ever met worked at Saab, but he was let go anyway, a couple of years ago..he trained the techs for 20 years, and did not shy away from the increasing complexity of our modern rides, unlike some older guys. Increasingly, new car purchasers have no clue about the incredible product at the showrooms, scary. They somehow love their japanese ride...
uaw contract
this vote is going to make a big difference on how many plants, ford keeps in north America. the cost of keeping up with the required government mandates and the legacy cost associated with union contracts, is unreasonable. especially, now that the other manufactures can build similar vehicles for less. pricing yourself out of a job is not wise, especially during a economic recession. our auto factory workers, are among the highest paid blue collar workers in north America. personally i would like the factories stay in America, as I'm tired of seeing all of the imported goods in all of the stores - showrooms.
Dodge Ram pickups show big improvements
it doesn't matter if you get the standard or new 6 speed automatic. they are both built to take the cummins power.
cc
report on cummins in dodge half ton pickup
a fair write up, but the mis-print or wrong information on the life of a diesel engine of 150,000 miles is still, giving the nay Sayers of diesel power, more false information to blow. the proof readers and writers of a automotive article should notice something like that before publication.
now to the subject of a hybrid half ton.
a diesel electric drive would be using the best of both technologies.
KC/STP Reject Ford Contract
Fine. I hear the Louisville will get to produce the next Escape (Euro Kuga). Don't be surprised when Escape/Mariner production moves from KC to Louisville. And, more F150 production moves to Dearborn. As for STP--there are plenty other stamping facilities.
Seriously. No ones happy about the state of the auto industry today but it is a fact and the competition is increasing. FMC has a ton of debt to payoff before getting anywhere near being profitable. Yes, the company is making progress but is a long way from making any profits. No profits, NO JOBS! Geez.
Ford's Kentucky Kuga
I've been thinking of re-powering an old rig with a small diesel. but if ford brought this vehicle to market, i would be seriously tempted.

uaw contract and business model
Ford has the lease favorable deal, even with this new contract, of all the American auto makers. the uaw employees, should jump to approve this contract. as a appreciation, of fords management acquiring the necessary funds needed, prior to the current economic down turn. thus preventing the same situation that the other two American auto companies are going through.
working with fewer perks, is better than the un-employment line. they can go ask millions of their fellow countrymen.
it's just that these American auto company workers are starting to feel, what millions of American workers in many industries including their own. have been going through for a couple decades. which has included plant shutdowns, or plants relocated off shore, requiring workers to take what's available elsewhere.
they need to wake up and support the company that they are getting their paycheck from. or we may see more of what has been happening over the past few years.
sales and job security go hand in hand. so the sales department needs a direct line to design and management to stay ahead of the ball and to build what the buying public wants. ford has been doing o.k. but still needs to look what other companies are selling and provide a similar product that is better. developing new products or changing current ones to fit what is needed and the sales will follow.
stop the complaining and get to work, as all employees contribute to a smooth running company.
the comment: uaw employees, is a subject for another day.

Cars of the 70s and 80s
Yes, those rides were all not as reliable as todays are, and that includes the imports, these middle-age purchasers
of todays jap. autos were dissapointed in 1985 when the D3 car they had some "issue'..they jumped ship then and many have not gone back. Now a 1984 mazda/toyota/whatever, it had tons of issues also, when young... did the original purchaser stay with jap. brands? If so, why?
( I owned 3 asian cars, 1980, 85, and 88. Had more big-ticket difficulties with them than product from D3...so no more!)

CyberSurvey: Can Chrysler tap luxury market?
Its getting off topic, supposed to be Chrysler, but:
I have a MB E-class. My dad has Lincoln. The Lincoln is without a doubt 90-95% the car that the germans made, and that is said without considering PRICE...yea, mine cost more to purchase, and service will kill you. Frankly, I would like to sell it, but it gets great mileage (diesel). Thats the real reason I picked it up...but a Milan hybrid beats it in the MPG game, and looks great in that metalflake white paint!
CyberSurvey: Color forecast
"Now, the realistic flames are big. They all look silly after a few years."
Oops, I hope not, this summer I 'flamed' the 'ole F250, but using blue fading to purple, instead of reds-to-yellows.
It's CNG, so that's the color of it's natural burn. Sons' said it's 'redneck', whatever that means!
But if you have blockbuster/netflix rental subscription,
"Rides", season 3, disk 1 has close-up of the realistic flame painting(s) movement. Recommended rental...
40mpg....
You are correct, the US makers do offer, in europe, vastly better MPG ratings, but those are diesel-driven, and the EPA will not allow those to be sold here. We have the tightest regulations in the world regarding emissions, and to make these regs., the costs are unsustainable for the average purchaser, my diesel was purchased used...new german diesel, check out the price, you will faint.
"Public policiy" workers have killed affordable high-mileage vehicles in the US., not our Engineers!
40mpg.org is a subset of the "Civil Society Institute".
the other 'divisions' of this policy-pressure group are:
'hybrid owners of america' (pro-prious)
'700 mountains ' (anti-mining)
Its founder and president, Pam Solo, was Pat Schroeder's campaign manager...remember Pat, planned parenthood attorney and teacher, ran for president, and lambasted Reagan at every oppourtunity. Also, Civil Society Institute has interests in stemcell legislation, as well as anti-nuke regs. Also, "Global Warming Litigation Project", "Foundation for Middle East Peace","Freeze Voter", etc. Their stated mission?
"Catalysts For Change, especially in areas of critical need"
I wonder if they still have the obama/biden sticker on their toyota?
