this fresh approach by Marchionne etal will provide more opportunity for input by employees on one hand, but also require a commitment to improvement ( defect reduction, cost reduction, increased uptime, higher throughput, etc )from all employees; there will not be any chance for employees to 'talk' their way around missing targets as the targets will be changed to meet the plan that each employee made a commitment to follow; for instance, if target was to reduce defects by 10% in the 1st qtr but only 7% was attained, the plan is revised to make up the shortfall AND meet the next target for the 2nd qtr; how all this fits into the language of the contract between the UAW and Chrysler will be a big factor to determining success of the plan; everyone has to be on the same page, working towards the same goals; the adversarial posturing between management and the workers must end; it's the only hope for a positive result
