Chrysler and their 5 year plan
Dear Detnews.
REALLY? Does anyone on the press want to give Chrysler a chance? GM all but floundering 5 months ago is being ahiled as a sucesfull turn around, yet to me they are still the same blooted company that they were before July of this year. Instead of beating down Chrysler why don't you give them a chance, makes me wonder who is lining your pockets....Ford or GM.
Chrysler's Market Share Goals
As a MOPAR fan, I understand that people have a reason to be skeptical about Chrysler's chances, given their current situation. Indeed, the car market is different from the time Marchionne turned Fiat around, and Chrysler may lose more market share as time goes by.
But we have to remember that, as Sean McAlinden pointed out, Chrysler had their market share go down to 7% on two separate occasions in the past 30 years, only to regain market share thereafter. Also, Marchionne has experience in turning companies around, as his work with Fiat has proven, and he is aware of how different the car market is nowadays. As such, he knows he has a big challenge ahead of him.
I, for one, am going to give him a chance to see what he can do to fix Chrysler, since he is the only one who has developed anything remotely resembling a plan for this task.
Chrysler's Recovery Plan
"Everyone is touting Marchionne's wizardry with turning around Fiat in 2006; but the vehicle market today is very different; when Marchionne started Fiat's turnaround, the vehicle market was in one of the largest expansion periods in history; NA vehicle sales > 16MM in 2007, a year later; now that the market has readjusted itself to a more sustainable volume, it will be very difficult to retain market share, let alone gain market share; with fewer new models in the pipeline, Chrysler's market share is headed in the wrong direction which compounds any challenges that Chrysler needs to stay alive; Marchionne's timing if off on this one"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree! To add my 2 cents worth. I wonder if Marchionne realizes the steep uphill climb he has facing him to turn Chrysler around? We all know, Chrysler has nothing new in the pipeline for the next couple of years. Chrysler along with Fiat have quality control issues compared to most of the competition. For the Chrysler/Fiat to succeed, the new models they do finally get to the market must be superior to the competition.
I don't see that happening. While Chrysler/Fiat attempts to catch up over the next two years, the rest of the industry will be galloping around turn two. I wouldn't bet a dime Chrysler/Fiat has any chance of catching up let alone passing the competition when it comes to product lines.
