Consequences for Ford too.

You don't seem to understand. The fall of American unions will only hurt the economy. All throughout history, big business has been trying to kill this country with and without governments help. The great railroad strike of 1877, the coal strikes of 1902, and trade associations to name a few of the examples. This union v. management fight is about one thing and one thing only. Big business greed. I worked for American Axle and witnessed first had how evil these corporate blood suckers are. Americans should put aside their jealousy and support unions. Without the unions, everyone stands to lose--no matter what profession you may be in.

Government will always choose a side. When it stands to benifit the economy, they support minimum wage hikes, the 40 hour workweek, time and a half for overtime, and equal opportunity employment. When it doesn't benefit the economy they claim to practice Laissez-faire. History always repeats itself and government needs to let these companies die if they can't afford to provide good wages to their employees. Ford posted billion dollar profits, no concessions! F them!

Consequences for Ford too.

BIRDMAN----You don't seem to understand. Ford does not have to move production over seas. They can just move production to plants in the south where people want to work. Where the union is not forced on them. Where if a company is billions in debt and makes a profit in one quarter the workers don't want to destroy them bu not putting them on a equal playing field with their competitors. Remember Ford is doing this without our the taxpayers money.

Consequences for Ford too.

I'm not union, nor an autoworker, but I have an opinion. Ford says there will be consequences to the union's rejection to concessions? At the same time Ford boasts about billion dollar profits? I have a bit of consequential information for you too, Ford--take any more business over seas and Americans will begin to realize that these cheaper, fuel efficient foreign cars are an option. There is no more American made automakers. We're free to buy Japanese.

Say no to concessions! Say no to big business! Say no to out-sourcing! Say no to foreign made Ford!

Skills I have. Lived in Michigan and got my journeymans card in the early 80's. Used my GI bill to get an education. Moved into management and don't have to tell you what happend next. I did relocate. Moved my family to souther Indiana. I work for Toyota. No layoffs during the industry downturn. Launching a new mini van and the Highlander. Don't care what happens to Ford, GM or Chrysler. Their time is over. They had plenty of opportunities to avoid the foreign take over of the auto industry. It's much too late now to do anything about it. American built cars will become a collectors item for my grandchildren.

You was going to buy a Lexus anyways, just using this as a way to make you feel like your not a trader to the true american auto business. You people are the reason this country is heading into being a 3rd world country for your grand kids and on down.

Ford Vote

Mike,

"Please enlighten us where they would have saved money besides freezing new hire wages thru 2015?"

Lets say the UAW strikes, ford will incur operating costs to those factories, even with the workers striking. Such costs include paying for the real estate that the factories are on, facility maintenance, increased security at the factory locations where striking workers are picketing. So there is some cost saving rational behind this clause. With the approval of the no strike clause, ford would still have these costs, but they wouldn't have to worry about their production being cut, so they still have the opportunity to make a profit and to reward their workers in the future. If their production is cut, there is far lesser chance of profitability, with this comes more cuts and future concessions. My problem is, everyone is concerned with the short term effects, its however the long term consequences that this might have on Ford.

Just my two cents

I worked for Bendix and in 1983 they claimed that if the union did not give concessions the company would close. We did give concessions and the company closed a year later.

Happens all the time, and it happened a lot in the eighties.

Get yourself some skills and education and relocate. That way, you can take care of yourself and not have to place your future in someone else's hands.

sounds like a lot of guessing going on by the so called experts that is leading a lot of bad press towards the union boys. why is that? are the experts feeling left out? trying to justify the existance of themselves? maybe the union boys were right to stand up for a change. i doubt that most companys that fail really have the workforce to blame.

Your "we'll show those UAW workers" mentality is just stupid.

It's worked pretty well for those wanting to keep the UAW out of the transplants, hasn't it?

With a mentality like you own we wouldn't want you to buy a Ford either.

Your "we'll show those UAW workers" mentality is just stupid.

Analysis: Rejection of Ford-UAW deal spells trouble for region, industry

Ford should do the right thing. Start closing US plants and move production elseware. It's clear to me that the UAW will not be happy until Michigan's unemployement rate is 45%

Get a grip UAW!

rejection of Ford deal

Lets get the story right. The membership already agreed to let Ford hire workers at a lower wage with the last concession contract..And we are NOT going to give our right up to strike..We the members have done EVERYTHING to help Ford as you can see by there last 3 quarters..We want to keep what we have and are not asking for anything more in return..ALL Americans should want the same ...To keep good paying jobs..
