TOYOTA BLACKMAIL

Not sure where you're going with that. I avoid the beach this time of year- too many snowbirds.

Don't worry I'm not going to go out and buy a Toyota, or a Ford or a GM for that matter for a little while. Times are tight when insurance rates go up, prices go up, colleagues lose their jobs (thank God I've got seniority) and salaries remain stagnant.

Even when I am ready, Toyota doesn't offer a whole lot that I like. The Venza looks rather nice, but I'd like to move up. I'm thinking German.

Snow

You've been watching too many Miami Vice re-runs. Hey, the stuff still blows down here (sorry about the pun), but not like it used to in the 80s.

I was in 5th grade when we had flurries in Jan. '77. We ran out of the classroom, as most of us had never seen snow. It was my first memory, despite seeing it as an infant. Alas, it didn't stick around, and melted almost as soon as it hit the ground. Didn't see the stuff again until I was 18.

I've seen it many times since, but never lived in it. Are snow tires required? Chains? Do you really need 4wd or awd up there? I always thought it was kind of silly when I saw 4wd on trucks down here, especially on the ones that look like they've never been off the pavement.

2011 Ford Shelby GT 500

Regarding Saleen.........

Saleen isn't the Saleen it used to be. Steve Saleen sold the company but the company retains the Saleen name. I'm not sure what all they do anymore. I believe there is a Michigan/California tie somehow.

I saw a 2009 (I believe it is correct) Saleen Dodge Challenger for sale on eBay. I don't know which Saleen, Steve or the Saleen company, is affiliated with the Challenger.

I have owned a 1999 Mustang Saleen S281 Speedster (convertible) non supercharged. Nice car but didn't perform noticeably better than a standard Mustang GT. This one was for "looks" only - glad I bought it used and let the original owner take the big hit on depreciation. I only kept it a few months and sold it for what I paid for it.

Lansing production

Good for you Lansing!....there are still people out here, even in the Western US pulling for you and American companies. Congratulations, those new Buick SUV's look great! (Even though I'm a Blue Oval guy!)

Tue. 02/09/10 07:06 PM

Anyone?

I caught the tail end of a news story that, unless I heard it wrong, said Toyota was pulling all of it's advertising dollars from ABC because they kept talking about the recalls. Is this true? Could they be that stupid?

Lansing new hires

Someone needs to do some math. 14 dollars an hour equals at 40 hours, 560 dollars a week. Take out taxes and you have what? And I believe these jobs have no benefits with them. Sick days? Vacation days, paid holidays?

Now you need transportation. A roof over your head. Most people like to eat once in a while. Then add doctor bills. insurance, utilities and what do they put in a retirement account?

denver;

"Do not buy UAW Government Motors Vehicles."

Again,Wo-o-oo-wo-wo, Wo-o-oo-wo-wo, ... Poor, poor, poor little denver. Your not to bright to keep blaming the UAW for your problems. You're just bitter and jealous that the UAW had the business sense to get a written contract from GM while you salary types got a verbal contract from General Motors. Remember that old saying,"A VERBAL Contract Is NOT Worth The Paper It IS WRITTEN ON" .. eh!

carczar you might find this interesting that, Wallace Hopp, a Herrick professor of manufacturing at the University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business, believes that the findings of the "Harbour Report" in recent years confirm that continuous improvement has taken hold at the Detroit Three.

"Actually, I think they've embraced it quite wholeheartedly," Hopp says.

Craig Becker Nomination to NLRB...

Remember in November the unequal unfair treatment of the salary workers, retirees and creditors of UAW Government Motors. IPO? Why would I buy GM over Apple or Rimm. At least they are viable American industries. I may pay more for Apple but at least I won't get wiped out down the road. We old GM people remember and won't forget. Do not buy UAW Government Motors Vehicles.

Tue. 02/09/10 05:20 PM

TOYOTA RECALLS

Toyoda says he takes personal responsibility for the errors but in recent Toyota television advertising the blame for the Toyota engineering screw ups is placed on the line workers. The UAW wouldn't let that fly.
