Your sorta wrong with the remark about the only player he drafted. Andre Goodman was snatched up by BILL PARCELL's (another OLD lions pick) this off season. Hey John, How did these clowns in the front office let a 6'7" Nebraska C/T get poached off the practice squad. Geez. 2 yrs 2 guys.
The TE will be next, just watch. This Gronkowski kid can play the game at this level-"No question."-RIP Rod Marinelli the latest fall guy. USC could beat this team for God Sake! It's true. I wonder IF Mike O'hara still thinks this team could beat Buffalo or Cleveland?...bless his heart. Let's go Red Wings!
Got your facts mixed up a bit there. Goodman played out his rookie contract then signed with Miami after the '05 season. He had a really good year last season with the Dolphins' turnaround, then cashed in with a big (too big) contract with the Broncos this past winter.
We'll see what becomes of Murtha, but I don't think they'll end up lamenting that one. Gronkowski has to become a better blocker to make an NFL roster, but he's got the physical tools.
I picked 'em to beat WAS, STL, CLE and SF. Bless my heart, too.

jdavis,
you are reacting to your Detroit Lions like a parent would to their child.. protecting them even though they just killed the neighbors dog.. So, you see I'm not trying to be negative.. I'm being constructive.. It's obvious to me what is wrong down there.. see Ford is running the team not you.. Ford is a loser.. now take in consideration the fact that Ford hired Matt Millen and Matt Millen hired Martin Mayhew and then try and keep your silly comments to yourself.. oh and don't be a Sally.. no body likes a Sally

still disagree, but nice to hear other point of view. what do you think of left guard and defensive tackle? not sold on lopier or any of the d tackles, and could use another solid cb. im wondering if keith smith comes through this year.

jdaivs, still think it is a stupid move. they just signed 3 guys in the offseason to play opposite of calvin, he is old and on the downside of career and always complaining about his contract and playing time. remember, the defense has been dead last two years straight,he has been practicing with, according to him, no restrictions and if they wanted to dump salary, millen and marenelli handed a career special teamer, undrafted free agent a huge contract at about 5-8 and 190 hardly makes a reciever think twice about going over the middle. and who are these other great safeties we have? pearson? schweigert? hicks? manuel? there is now no depth behind probale starters bullocks and delmas.i just think mayhew would rather take a 8 year veteran on the downside of his career because of "savy or experience" than a second year player with upside, same as marenelli.(i.e. darby, kelly, dsmith, nece, lenon)

I agree with your grades and think there's even more to be excited about...in terms of free agents, Terrelle Smith and Will Heller are great blockers, and don't forget Anthony Henry at CB/S. If nothing else he's a great depth signing. Also, it sounds like Kevin Carter may just be biding his time. In terms of the draft, I think Derrick Williams will bring a boost to the slot and return game.
After watching the rookie camp -- hardly a fair evaluation -- I'm not convinced Williams will be as effective as a WR as a rookie as we might've expected. But time will tell. But he should be an immediate help on special teams, at the very least. And maybe they get him some looks in a Wildcat? Probably not, but he's capable. So is R. Curry, for that matter. And again, that's another strong suit with the new guys in charge -- they're going to find multidimensional players whenever possible -- that's one of Schwartz's mantras.
