With the loss of Valtteri Filppula to a broken wrist, the Red Wings are now playing without six of the their top 13 scorers from last year. Four were lost to free agency, including No. 3 scorer Marian Hossa, while Filppula joins Johan Franzen in the trainers' room.
The impact? Because of the Wings balanced scoring, the six players accounted for nearly half of the Wings goals last year -- 134 of 289. That's a lot; if Pittsburgh lost similar players (Nos. 3 (Hossa), 4 (Franzen) 7 (Jiri Hudler), 9 (Mikael Samuelsson), 11 (Filppula) and 13 (Tomas Kopecky), they'd have lost just over a third of their goals.
