Post-game, Buffalo
Interesting to hear the Wings talk after the ugly 6-2 loss in Buffalo Tuesday.
Henrik Zetterberg talked about how it's early in the season, no reason to panic, best just to wash the bad performance off and move on.
But a couple of older Wings, namely Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Osgood were adamant that the last thing the team needed was to just shrug the game off. Osgood called it the worst game he's seen the Wings play in a while and that they needed to use it as a wake-up call. Lidstrom said the same thing. They can't look past the game because they strayed so far from their basic structure, their fundamental method of play.
Can't wait to see how they respond.
A couple of other items that fell through the cracks last night.
The Wings hadn't lost in Buffalo since March 10, 2002 (three straight). They were 9-1-1 against the Sabres since October of 1999 and had won 15 of the last 18 meetings.
Niklas Kronwall delivered the hit of night in the first period. He caught Sabre's winger Patrick Kaleta with his head down at center ice and leveled him. Vintage Kronwall bell-ringer.
Sabres Thomas Vanek, who scored two goals, left the game right after his second one, with an upper body injury (ribs). Sabres officials expect him to be out weeks.
