Late night call from Chelios

Got a call from Chris Chelios late last night. He said he declined all interview requests Monday because he wanted to formulate his thoughts properly and express his thanks to the fans of Detroit the right way.

"I don't want to sound like a knucklehead," Chelios said.

Chelios, 47, will meet with the media, likely Wednesday, he said. He didn't sound angry or bitter. He knew this was going to be his final season with the Wings.

But, this wasn't the end of Chelios' playing career. Far from it. Chelios thinks he can still play. He knows he can. Chances are, some team will give him a chance. And knowing Chelios, he'll prove any doubters out there wrong.

He'll be fine.

midnight call from chelios

first place chelios should look is toronto. by the look of things, brian burke could probably use chelios a great deal.

the down side is that burke wants a tough fighting team. at cheli's age to much of the rough stuff would be counter productive. i thought that cheli going back to the blackhawks might help, then i thought, the way the fans and management treated him, why would he. besides it would look like cheli was begging. we know that cheli has to much pride for that. the other possibility is and i hate this is colorado, the avs have nothing going for them. cheli might even do good there. no matter, cheli will make the best choice possible.
