Wonderful Winter Classic
The hype surrounding these events such as the Winter Classic is what bothers me. It doesn't seem to stop. There are promises of a unique experience, memories to last a lifetime. And ultimately, when you're actually there, or watch the event on television, it doesn't live up to what's promised. But the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field, this wasn't bad. Even this jaded reporter has to admit. Was it the greatest live event I've ever attended? No. But it was certainly unique, and brother, a lot of folks sure seemed to be having fun. And to me, if the fans enjoy it, and they're the most important ingredient in all of this, that's the most vital thing. Adults (including my wife) and children (including my 11-year-old hockey fan) sharing a rare happening with frosty smiles and taking time out from all the doom and gloom news we're being hit with daily. Good for the NHL for hitting upon the Winter Classic. The league often gets pelted for its strikes, but it truly deserves credit for this hit. Personally, I now can't wait until the one that some day, surely, will come to Detroit.
