One of the turning points in the 7-6 loss to Pittsburgh came when the Red Wings got called for two penalties in six seconds shortly after taking a 5-2 lead.
The Wings gave up their sixth 5-on-3 goal in 14 games, which helped start the Penguins' rally.
"It's almost a guarantee when you get a three-goal lead, you're going to get a 5-on-3 against you," Wings goalie Chris Osgood said. "That's obvious when you watch other games as well."
First of all, the Red Wings have only themselves to blame for blowing that lead, and they'll be the first to admit that.
The NHL, however, better be careful it doesn't get a reputation for trying too hard to keep the games close. All these one-goal games have been a lot of fun to watch, but the league can't afford to risk its credibility in the process.
