Dave Dye's NHL rankings

1. Detroit: Reputation/road record keeping champs at the top.

2. San Jose: Seven-game winning streak ends in Phoenix.

3. N.Y. Rangers: Rank No. 26 in scoring (2.53 per game).

4. Montreal: Terrible week with losses to Columbus and Toronto.

5. Boston: Hard-working team has won six of last seven.

6. Anaheim: Just 4-5-1 at home, but 5-2 on road.

7. Buffalo: Looking like legit contender again in East.

8. Pittsburgh: Miroslav Satan isn't Marian Hossa, but he's been a nice pick-up.

9. Washington: Alexander Ovechkin scores first goal in 10 games.

10. Edmonton: Watch out for Oilers, who have played 12-of-15 on road.

11. Minnesota: Hanging in there without Marian Gaborik.

12. Carolina: Impressive 5-2-2 on the road.

13. Chicago: Blackhawks are 7-1-2 in last 10 games.

14. Calgary: Goalie Miikka Kiprusoff remains inconsistent.

15. New Jersey: Downward adjustment due to Martin Brodeur's injury.

16. Vancouver: Roberto Luongo is on fire.

17. Tampa Bay: Skilled lineup, but Lightning need more grit.

18. Ottawa: Decent team, but goalies give up too many soft ones.

19. Dallas: Fewer points than the, um, Thrashers.

20. Philadelphia: Need defensive help more than they need Brendan Shanahan.

21. Toronto: Just when you think they're the lousy Leafs, they win another big game.

22. Columbus: Team of the week with victories over Edmonton, Montreal and Calgary.

23. Nashville: 5-1 at home, 1-6-1 on the road.

24. Phoenix: Olli Jokinen responds to Wayne Gretzky's criticism.

25. Los Angeles: Ten of 13 games have been at home.

26. Colorado: Fans starting to stay away from struggling team.

27. St. Louis: 3-6-1 in last 10 after surprising hot start.

28. Florida: Backup goalie Craig Anderson ends team's six-game winless streak.

29. Atlanta: Former Wing Slava Kozlov, 36, scored in four straight games.

30. N.Y. Islanders: Former Wing goalie Joey MacDonald takes over for Rick DiPietro (knee).
