Notes from Friday's practice

Three things to touch on after (Black) Friday's (have you seen the Wall Street numbers?) practice.

1) Brian Rafalski didn't practice today because of a sore knee. He said he banged it in the first period against the Leafs but was able to continue playing. He simply rested Friday to not hurt it further but expects to play Saturday in Ottawa.

2) It's official, the Wings will be visiting the White House Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. Everyone around the team is thrilled. Kirk Maltby said the best part about this entire event is the drive from the airport to the White House....it seems they have a police escort that is quite impressive. Remember, this is the fourth time some of these veterans have visited the White House. But they all insist it's a quite an honor and are wide-eyed about doing it as much as they were the first time.

3) The theme after practice today was re-establishing work ethic. The Wings, and particularly coach Mike Babcock, didn't like the what he saw in that area against the Leafs. You've got to believe the Wings will come out with a much more intensity in Ottawa. If nothing else, the Senators outplayed the Wings last season in Ottawa on Hockey Night in Canada. The Wings may have that on their memories, as well.
