Down goes Lindsay

The Red Wings wrapped up their Traverse City portion of training camp Tuesday night with Team Howe defeating Team Lindsay, 4-2, in a scrimmage.

Tomas Holmstrom, Marian Hossa, Derek Meech and Nicklas Lidstrom scored for Howe. Mikael Samuelsson and Jiri Hudler got the Lindsay goals.

Coach Mike Babcock said he was impressed with both of the Wings' young goalies, Daniel Larsson and Jimmy Howard, along with forward Darren Helm.

Babcock's top priority right now is to reestablish the work ethic that the Wings had to end last season.

"I think that's been good," Babcock said. "It hasn't been as physical, but that's understandable."

The players are looking forward to going up against someone other than a teammate.

The intensity should pick up a notch Wednesday night when Hossa makes his Joe Louis Arena debut in a Wings uniform against Montreal in the opening exhibition game.
