Babcock presser Wed. morning
Likely not wanting to interfere with Michael Curry's press conference today at The Palace, the Wings and Mike Babcock will announce Babcock's new three-year extension tomorrow morning at 11 a..m. at JLA. Babcock, 45, guided the Wings to a Stanley Cup in his third season with the team. He had an option for a fourth season but declined it, in hopes of securing a long-term deal. The plan worked, with the new deal expecting to bump Babcock's salary to somewhere between $1.5 and $2 million per season. General manager Ken Holland said earlier in the week he and Babcock had put off the final details to a contract right before the playoffs began. Holland said only minor issues remained, and expected a final agreement this week. Babcock has coached the Wings to over 50 victories each of his three seasons and to two Presidents Trophies for the league's best record. Babcock may have to tinker with his staff, though, as Todd McLellan may wind up as the head man in either Atlanta and San Jose.
