Grigorenko appears done with Wings
The Igor Grigorenko experiment appears over. General manager Ken Holland said before the Red Wings' morning skate Thursday the organization isn't likely to offer Grigorenko, a restricted free agent, a contract. "It's time to move on," said Holland, who has received reports the one-time Russian prospect remains overweight and didn't have a good season in the Russian pro league. "I don't think there's been that commitment to conditioning that's needed. Unless somebody tells me other news in the next two months, it's time to move on." Grigorenko was in training camp this season but didn't impress anyone. Knowing he wouldn't make the Wings' roster, Grigornko returned to Russia. While the Grigorenko is out of the picture, the Wings will meet with Swedish prospect Fabian Brunnstrom Thursday and Friday. Brunnstrom, 23, has never been drafted and is what Holland and many scouts call a "late-bloomer". Wings coach Mike Babcock doesn't even know why Brunnstrom is thinking about going anywhere else. "It's so obvious it isn't even funny," Babcock said during his press conference. "Just move into Novi, Little Sweden, and hang out. I can't even understand how anybody else is in the running. Makes no sense to me whatsoever. All they (Swedish players) do is they come here, they're comfortable, they play better than they ever have in their life."
